A great collection of old western comics. If you grew up in the 50s and 60s with a love of westerns, check out this volume.
Growing up in the early 50s and 60s I have always loved western comics and stories. I would purchase comic books on Lash Larue, Tim Holt, the Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers and other older western heroes. When I saw this collection (Golden Age western comics edited by Steven Brower) of old west comics for a reasonable price on Amazon, I immediately ordered a copy. I was not disappointed. In fact, I loved this collection of western comics and it brought back some childhood memories. Some of the comic stories in this 146 page hardcover book are as follows:Texas Tim, Ranger, a Lash Larue adventure #56, Magic arrow rides the pony express, a Tom Mix story, a Daniel Boone tale, a Buffalo Belle story, An Annie Oakley tale and much, much more. Even though I had never heard of some of these western comic heroes; nevertheless, I loved reading these entertaining old comic characters. The hardcover also is unique, having what looks like actual bullet holes in it.If you are into the western genre and old western comics, you will want to check out this collection. I personally found it a great nostalgic read.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Pro-Systems Combatives Vol. 1,2)

Great book...not long enough
Would have loved the book to have been more than double the pages or triple even...it's that good...Need another volume for sure....

Copy quality is very good, and so are the stories
These are reprints of vintage western comics issues. Copy quality is very good, and so are the stories. Highly recommended.

golden age of westerns
This book was a great disappointment. It left out some of my favorites as a boy. No Tim Holt, No Durango Kid, No Folly of the Fighting Fifth, No Cheyenne Kid, No Red Ryder, No Straight Arrow, No Roy, Dale or Gene, no Tex Ritter, Tim McCoy, no Hoppy, Lone Ranger, no Zorro, etc. etc. There was one Tom Mix and one Lash Larue but the book dwelled on the sleazy Carlton Comics. Where were the Marvel Western heroes. It was less than golden in my imagination.

old westerns scanned for you.
The other reviewer doesn't realize that this book is not a major companies work. It is simply a bunch of people scanning old yellowed comics into a book format. it does have several good forwards written here. But in fact this is mainly Charlton reprints. but you can't find old western comics in book form out there much. So if you want to read some old comics that are not restored and scanned , then this is for you. I do like what marvel did with the rawhide kid though, remastered and new looking. But at least you can read some old stories. here. The other reviewer didn't get to read his favorites., but these guys just took what they could. A proper book of reprints would be great. However it is cool to be able to at least read these old comics. But be warned they are yellowed and such. Someday someone will start reprinting old westerns with restoration. marvel at least may do more. I hope so. but here you get what you get.
