Wonderful Sketchbook For Artists
I got the 13.5 x 8.5 in the distressed brown. I love, love, love this sketchbook. I mean I LOVE it! I only wish it came in a bigger size, but this is a great size. I wanted a sketchbook like what the master artists like Rembrandt may have had. It has that old world feel for sure. It feels wonderful in your hands. The cover is soft and flexible (I love flexible books) and the paper is a lovely distressed, sepia color. Every page is slightly different in its sepia coloring. The white you see in my drawings is not added white, but me using an eraser to make light areas in my drawing. Erasing will lighten the paper where you erase. If I had to erase the darker parts, it would grey down or turn more white than I want it. It will not go back to the paper color. So, if you are using it for drawings, you will need to do very light work at first. When you have it where you want it, then darken it when you have the design where you want it.I was pleased to see that the darker graphite work did not show through the back side. I put a lot of pressure on parts of the drawings (inside the mouths and the pupils) so I was worried the paper couldn't handle it, but it can.I am left-handed so I am working from the back of the book to the front so my hand doesn't go against the binding, but I do that with all my sketchbooks. So far, I have only done drawings in it, but I can see that adding color would have a beautiful affect with the toned and distressed paper.I will be buying more of this exact one that is for sure. I am actually tempted to stock pile them.Jani Freimann Fine Art - Expressive Portraits Of Animals And People

Santa’s Book of Names
I wanted a bigger book this Christmas Season. The pages are excellent and really look antique. The cover needs some distressing because it looks too new and crisp hence only 4 instead of 5 stars

Holy Crap!!!
OK, here's what i was (kind of wanting) expecting... A leather cover with like a tea or coffee stained "notebook paper" with the deckle edges. I had one like that; on the "outside" it looked JUST like this one here. They say; sometimes it's whats on the inside that counts. That's SO true in this case. This paper is like some 1800s throwback.some of the pages didn't take the stain well and looked... odd to say it, but it looked fake. so i bought a sponge at the store and blotted the paper a bit at a time and let it dry all the way before moving on to the next bit.it worked like a charm, the pages have a realistic "aged" look and are just waiting to be used.the problem is; this is some high quality stuff, not regular notebook paper... i was just wanting a cool place to write my shopping lists and stuff. this book makes me want to take off into the woods and start doing watercolors and sketches of the hob-nosed northern swallowtail butterfly as it migrates during mating season. (i apologize to said butterfly if it's a real thing that's a horrible name and i hope it's made up)IS it useful? not extremely. is it COOL? HECK YES! DID it take a little fixin? Yes, BUT to fix it cost like .75 cents for a sponge and however much the city charged me for a cup of water. Here comes the kicker... Would I but it again? it's in my saved for later... it's being bought "again" on payday.OH SNAP!!! BEFORE I FORGET!!!IF you are ANY kind of creative with leather, the cover is a field day of opportunity. it's not exactly RAW leather but it's not been worked to death, i haven't found a single thin spot or super noticeable grain flaw. honestly, i don't know how they offer this cover and paper combo at this price point. I know this isn't top grain leather, but I hope it's a consistent quality of this... ummmm... quality, i guess. it's thin enough to be pliable and thick enough to be workable as long as you aren't heavy handed.I do have ONE complaint. The leather strand that holds the book closed is SOOOOOO thick and RAW looking that it kills me.DO THIS AT YOUR OWN SKILL LEVEL!!!!Unwind the strap, measure 1/4th of a relaxed but snug fit around the book (this makes sure the strap has room for expansion). mark that on the leather with a pencil. and bring it down to about 1/2 the size of your strap. use the same measurement as before at the end of the strap.IF you are one of those that can do that cool braid thing go for it. I can't so what i did was cut the edges off and then rubbed the thin leather strip down with lip balm (it's mostly beeswax (wink wink nudge nudge) shout out to Burt). It was hard to stabilize the strip of leather so I just stapled the parts that were going to be cut off to some fiber board and used a box cutter "borrowed" from a dude at Kroger to cut them out. in the end the strap was a bit thicker than a shoestring but thanks to the lip balm treatment it was sturdy and pliable. This book has TWO things written all over it EVEN before you buy it... Mad Scientist or 1800s Explorer...and NO they are not LITERALLY written all over it, that's a metaphor...P.S. I think I'm more Mad Scientist than explorer...

Beautiful, soft & so much fun.
This leather journal is smooth and durable. The pages are made from a thick homemade paper type. I am able to write on them with a ballpoint pen with no bleed through or tearing issues. I bought this to be a journal and it works well. The pages are stained from a tea solution, perhaps? But they look authentically old and I love that the edges of the pages are not straight cut but rough edged. This is something I plan on journaling in and gifting down to my children one day. Absolutely beautiful and I would buy again!

It makes me want to write
From the time I opened the package, it was love at first sight. I have a leather journal that I'm am five or six pages from completing. After journaling for years using spiral notebooks, I decided my thoughts and feelings deserved better representation. I bought my first leather-bound journal just days before Katrina hit and carried it everywhere. Don't get me started on the panic that ensued the two times I thought I lost it. I called that one Katrina and there have been others since. This journal, though, is amazing. It's beautiful. It feels good when you carry it. The paper is sturdy and stands up well to the fountain pen I use. The fact that it is unlined means I can sketch when the mood strikes me. It's so beautiful that you might have reservations about writing in it. Don't. Put what is inside you inside of it. Your writing deserves pampering. My only problem is naming it. I hate to call it COVID. Any suggestions?

Magical
Just holding this makes me feel like a wizard or monk writing the mysteries of the ages for future generations to absorb. The feel of the leather, the worn, aged thick pages. It just has a feel of ancient times to it and brings you back to a time forgotten. If you yearn for a connection to the past this is a first step. Perfect for poetry, recipes, magical spells or notes. This is what a book should be.

Not the same as advertised
This product is advertised very differently from what you get. The pages are sold as normal aged paper but when it comes it’s pure cotton paper, looks nothing like the picture, you can’t write with fountain pen or any normal pen. Very disappointing.
