Not an "icky" book!
My son is ten now, but when he was turning three and about to start preschool, he hated books and he hated the alphabet. I worried that he would never learn his ABC's (he'd actually yell "NOOO!!!" if I even started to sing the ABC's to him) or develop a love for reading. One thing my son did love, was bugs. I'd even go so far to say he was obsessed with bugs. I mean, what three year old insists on being an earwig for Halloween? I discovered that my stubborn little boy would happily sit for reading time if the books featured bugs. The more realistic and factual, the better. I was thrilled to discover The Icky Bug Alphabet book, and in no time my son had learned to recognize all of the letters. I also got the Icky Bug Counting Book, and I am completely convinced that these two books were the only reason my kid went to preschool knowing the alphabet and how to count to ten.In addition, the illustrations are beautiful and the text is both fascinating and humorous. These bugs are anything but icky! I got this book for my sister in law, who is expecting a baby girl later this month. I hope my niece will grow up to think bugs are great, not icky. My son still loves his bugs, by the way!

Icky Bug Book Series
This book series is written by Jerry Pallotta. Although the pictures are drawn by several illustrators, they are the best illustrations I have ever encountered. The series is super. I initially purchased The Icky Bug Counting Book and I was hooked. I bought it for use in reading in the content area. I now own almost all the series--The Icky Bug Counting Book, The Icky Bug Alphabet Book, The Icky Bug Shapes Book and The Icky Bug Color Book. I hope to complete my collection this summer. Excellent content area books. I purcased the books in both hardcover and softcover. Purchase them in hardcover because you will use them over and over again--durability. If you can afford to purchase at least two copies. One for the class library and one for your use. They will be the most popular books on the self--guaranteed.

Not your typical ABC book
I can't say enough great things about these books. Jerry Pallotta has a unique take on the "ABC" type books you usually see for kids. These are not just for learning the alphabet (and probably actually not intended for that at all) but are more of an encyclopedia of quick facts about the subject matter. My 3-year old LOVES this one and the others that he has -- He points out the letters of course, but also now knows what a Riojasaurus is (from the Dinosaur version), too! My husband and I even have learned from reading these to him. Highly recommended for an "outside of the box" ABC book.

Better than expected!
This book is everything I expected from this author and more! I can't wait to give this to our grandson! He already loves his "Who Would Win" books by this same author. I would recommend to ANYONE!

This book is great. Not only does my kid love it
This book is great. Not only does my kid love it, but this book (and the number one) both introduce unique words into your kid's vocabulary, words that you're not going to hear many other places - although it comes in the form of bugs, I believe it's a great tool for the development of your child. Well done!

Un abécédaire original
Mes enfants ont 2 ans et 5 ans, et apprécient ce livre. Pas si "icky" que ça, et on y apprend plein de choses sur les petites bêtes, ainsi, bien sûr que l'alphabet.
