Great professional grade wire
I was installing a new fence wire around our new house and I needed a new wire as I left the old wire in the ground at my old house. When I installed that petsafe unit I used the stick 22g wire and that listed about 4 years before I had to replace it.... Knowing this I wanted a better wire so I wouldn't be reinstalling a new wire every couple years. So I went with the 16g wire and was very happy with the quality when it arrived.I would have liked a thicker wire yet but anything thicker then this wouldn't fit in the crack in my concrete driveway and I didn't want to cut a new groove in the driveway.I rented a gas powered tool from the hardware store that dredged the groove in the ground and also placed the wire in the bottom. It cost me 50 bucks for 4hours but was so worth it as it took about 10 min to go around my 1/3 arce lot. Took longer to glue the wire in the groove in the concrete.I did create two zones around my house with one giant loop of wire....u just need to bring it in closer the house on the sides of your house...this creates a backyard and front yard zone. My dog can go from back to front or front the back oy through my garage door...this way I can keep him just in the back of that's what I want. I also didn't take the wire all the way to the road as my dog is 120lb beast that people get scared of when he runs down there when there walking by....this way he stops a good 10-15ft before sidewalk/road.....Striping the wire was good and they do have a nice thick insulation on the solid copper core wire. It plugged into my petsafe base unit with out any issues. Because its solid core copper wire and 16g there is very little resistance in the 500ft wire. It does make it hard to twist the wire together to cancel the signal out. Luckily I only had to for about 15ft where the wire came into my basement to the base station. This way the dog wouldn't get shocked if he went by the base station in the house. I found that keeping one leg longer and then wrapping that linger leg around the shorter leg was easiest way to twist the wires together.I would buy this wire again for any in ground wire needs I had. I also recommended this wire to about a dozen people now and they all have had similar experiences as myself...one friend even did 5 acres of yard without any issues....Wife wants some lights installed around the house and some trees and I will be buying this wire to install those low voltage lights also...

not as advertised
After installation I had issues with my signal, I asked some questions to the manufacture of the dog fence system, they asked if this wire was solid copper. the description indicates that it is. I filed the wire along with another copper wire. the wire that I purchased or at min received was not a solid copper but a copper coated wire.

Shoddy quality control - wire is continuous but not the sheathing!!!
Was keen to get 2000 continuous feet for the large double loop I was installing. This way, I could start clean with no splices exposed to the weather. Unfortunately, I got about 50% of the way into my install and came across a section of the wire where ALL of the sheathing was missing (Pic 1)!!!! Not cool! Since I was about halfway into the project at that point I had not choice but to make a splice and continue on. About another 500f and I found a second spot where again ALL of the sheathing was missing (Pic 2)!!! Thus, I made a second splice that was unnecessary. While making splices is easy, the problem is that over the next 10 to 15 years, all splices are sure to slowly fail, cause corrosion, and ultimately result in signal lossBefore posting this review I did call customer service. The agent I spoke two didn't seem to understand the problem I was having and was powerless to resolve the issue. She took my contact info and said a supervisor would call me back Unfortunately, that has been a week ago and still I've heard nothing. Thus, we can add poor customer service to the shoddy quality control... not cool at all.

Not Sure The Calculations Are Accurate
This wire is so much better than that cheap mess that came with my Petsafe Stubborn Dog Fence. I was surprised at how big and heavy the roll was. The wire is harder to work with because it is so thick but I have no doubt it will last much longer than the yellow stuff did.Make sure you have wire strippers and pliers. You won't be twisting this with your fingers or stripping the wire with your teeth (not that I tried but I know that's what some people do). This company also makes a pretwisted wire to accompany this product. I highly recommend it as well because twisting this wire would have been quite a job!My only complaint is that I'm not sure the length will cover as much land as they claim it will. I have just over an acre and a half and I bought what should have been enough to cover 2 acres. I didn't have enough. My property is in a tear shape and i had to cut the whole tip of the tear out in order to make it work.I used a spool of the pretwisted wire to cut back across the yard to the transmitter so that didn't take up any additional wire from this roll.

Works very well.
Put a 3' fence around the front yard and got a German Short Hair pointer later. Needless to say we needed something to prevent the dog from pretending the fence didn't even exist! The Extreme Dog Fence with 16 gauge wire works extremely well. Since she was a puppy she was easily trained to avoid the fence and hasn't escaped once. I highly recommend this fence.

Worth the Extra Money
I installed my original Sportdog fence and it worked great...for a few years until the wire kept breaking. I finally got to the point that it was too annoying trying to figure out where the break was that I decided to re-run the wire. I decided to upgrade to this heavier wire and leet me say that is is MUCH sturdier than what came with my original fence. I fully expect that this will hold up for years. Well worth the money given the time it takes to run the fence.

Replaced some broken line from a professional install and this worked perfectly
I have a large property (acres) that is fenced by one of the big wire fence brands. Had a line break and the unit kept beeping so I called to have their professional come out to fix the break. Kid who came out to fix the break spent hours trying to find the problem - patched up some spots and left saying that it was fixed. Less then a few hours later the unit started beeping again. Decided to fix it on my own and spent half the money on this wire then it would cost for another service call. Ended up running all new wire along different sections after testing with a multimeter. Fixed the issues and I would buy this product again.
