The Young Adventurer's Collection Box Set 1 [Dungeons & Dragons 4 Books]: Monsters & Creatures, Warriors & Weapons, Dungeons & Tombs, and Wizards & ... & Dragons Young Adventurer's Guides) Review: Great way to introduce kids to D&D - My daughter asked me what D&D was after she learned I play. It was hard to cherry pick things from the source books that were age appropriate and easy to understand. These books solved that issue. The information is a mix of the three source books broken down to a kids level. It isn’t enough to play since it doesn’t have stat blocks or any character level breakdowns. It’s enough that it has gotten her interested in playing and let me see what she wanted to do so I could make a simplified character for her. Review: Great for exciting younger readers - Comes in 4 paperbound books. Keeps even my 7 year old exciting about the world of DnD. Wizards of the Coast has done a fantastic job taking what has been more of a middle-school/high-school age content and displaying it in a way that young readers can be amazed. The paper is high quality - the artwork inside is simply amazing. They have taken images from the Players Handbook, Dungeon Master's guide and lots of new imagery to create standard books that are not as intimidating as the PHB and DMG. Could not have been happier with how my kids have taken to these book.

The Young Adventurer's Collection (DnD)
The Young Adventurer's Collection Box Set 1 [Dungeons & Dragons. Yes, this is a young read. Large print and no long complicated discussions of tactics, characters or other such things. Provides decent broad introductory information for those just beginning to explore (& consider) playing DnD. As an (*ahem) older DnD beginner...) I found the reads overly simple but still fun. The collection is an enjoyable quick read. I'm not disappointed it's in my DnD library collection but it will never get the use (and usefulness) that the Player's Hand Book will!

A must have for D&D folks
This is a great set. Bought this for my son to start his adventures with in D&D for Christmas. Lots of illustrations and good material. A must get for D&D folks.

A Good Collection, But I Question the Age Appropriateness Recommendation
I will start out by saying as an avid proponent of the importance of Table Top Role Playing Games in developing critical thinking and practicing social skills, I will say that The Young Adventurer's Collection Box Set 1 is a good introduction to the world of Dungeons & Dragons, with excellent artwork and explanations that can serve to inspire a young adult audience to pursue the hobby, pick up a d20, and roll for initiative. I would also say it is probably a good set of reference books for adults wanting to have quick reads instead of delving into hundreds of pages of deep lore or rule books, or for someone planning on actively working with their children or an after school program to introduce them to the wonderful world of D&D. However, what I question, and the reason I rated this collection 4 stars, is the appropriateness of the age rating listed as being 7+. Simply on the basis of the word choice of vocabulary used and nuanced-concept presentation, I find it difficult to see this as being written at a first-grade reading level. I even question if it is written with a fourth-grade reading level in mind. And while I realize that it is difficult to work around a number of the themes that Dungeons & Dragons explores and still produce a book which remains true to the essence of D&D, some of those subjects may not be appropriate for an audience that is less mature than the young adult category. I am not saying that these themes should never be explored or that they should be censored or removed from the game or these books, but I think that they shouldn't necessarily be introduced to a child before they have matured to a point that they can understand them and process them in a constructive manner.

Great Quality!
I bought box set 1 and 2 and both are great quality, the art in them is gorgeous and I’m so excited to read through them with my little brother.

Good, easy to read books to get more familiar with the environment of the game and the classic elements.

Great collection of books. Well laid out and written.
I'm 53 and wanted a series of books to give to my niece on her 1st birthday, hoping to one day get her interested in D&D. After receiving and looking them over, I may not be able to part with them! They are VERY well done. All the art is new and unique (not reused from other D&D materials), and it's great to see how different artists view lore being appreciate by the eyes of a youngling. The books are categorized into different themes, but there are items, places, and characters which fit together across multiple books, so that when a young reader comes across them they will be able to fit the pieces together (for example one book describes Strahd von Zorovich, another the realm of Barovia, and another the Sun Sword used to destroy evil). I love this concept. The books are written by Jim Zub who is an accomplished writer, creator and illustrator of comics and has won multiple awards in this genre.
