Great Christmas Gifts
I purchased two of these for my sons-in-law for Christmas gifts. The two immersion circulators arrived within two days as promised and were well packaged and protected. I have received a report from one of the daughters that she and her husband have had perfect rib eye steaks they made the first night of use and last night they made a pork roast with leeks and apples. They reported that the Gourmia Sous Vide held the temperature within .1 degree the entire cooking time and cooked the vacuum sealed food perfectly. The only problem reported was that the pot clip kept slipping and my son-in-law needed to place a plastic tie wrap on it to hold it in proper position. I have offered to see about having it replaced for another unit as it may be defective, but the daughter and son-in-law declined as they live out of town.1/12/16 After further discussion with my daughter about their unit I gave them for Christmas, she said it is only adjustable to 1 to 2 degrees and not 0.1 degree. So, this combined with the problem with the handle slippage problem, I have downgraded to three stars from four stars.

Despite the Problems . . .
We have had this sous vide cooker for almost a year, and while we do LOVE our Gourmia . . . so much that we purchased one for a gift for a family member at Christmas . . . we HAVE had some technical issues. As other reviewers have noted, our model has exhibited1) finicky button issues (it's hard to turn the model off and on, or use that button to "set" the temperature)2) The E05 error message (water too low) flash on when we have water above the minimum capacity3) the black cap falling offDespite these issues, we still use the sous vide at least once a week, and often more (sometimes 3 times a week). We cook a few go-to staples for our wanna-be Paleo/Primal lifestyle, so chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on) to 150 degrees in freezer-safe plastic bags, then keep them in the fridge ready for a quick broil (until they heat through and the skin is crispy) to pair with a salad for lunch or dinner. I love to tuck slices of lemon and fresh herbs under the skin. We also love cooking steaks at the 130 degree range-- my partner dries them off, rubs them with a bit of oil, and then blow torches them to get that fun char-- a great contrast to the perfectly cooked moist interior. I also love to do salmon (we get those big bags of frozen, pre-portioned salmon at Costco): defrost, add salt and pepper, sometimes a little dried mustard, butter . . . then put in a freezer-safe bag (we don't have a vacuum sealer) and cook at 115 degrees (I like translucent and starting to flake). We haven't done eggs yet (at least not with success-- I want to do more research) or home-made yogurt or cheese . . . my partner mentioned the other night that we're sort of one-trick-ponies at this point. I'd love to do an octopus for a warm salad. Our one year warranty is almost up, and as I was reading the reviews, it appears we're not the only ones with these problems (the finicky button, the weird error message, the black cap falling off), so I called Gourmia today to see what options we have in regards to getting a replacement model that, hopefully, doesn't exhibit these troubling qualities. I've read good things about their customer service, so I'll post more after we hear back from them.If you do purchase a sous vide, I'd still recommend this one for its extremely reasonable price point!

A little too finicky
Now that I have used the Gourmia for several months I feel I can contribute a helpful review. It is the first sous vide device I have used so I am mostly commenting based on direct experience with the actual device. I have done cooks of several hours and several days, and the Gourmia has lived up to expectations. It never shut off on me and it seems to keep the temperatures steady which is the whole point. One of my minor gripes is that the water level options may not be as generous as some models out there. It isn't happy when there isn't enough water in the bath even though it is up to the minimum line. This is easily remedied by adding additional water. It also doesn't seem to have as generous a range of flexibility in water levels which makes it harder to match the size of the water bath vessel and amount of food.My other minor gripe is that you can't select exact degrees Fahrenheit because it appears to be designed for centigrade. Sometimes it skips a degree. I'm not sure if other brands can be adjusted in increments less than one degree, but because of the design, sometimes I have to choose a particular degree F that is available. This hasn't seemed to negatively affect outcome, but it might be important for certain especially precise applications. *Tip- I bought some practice ping pong balls on Amazon for a different purpose and they were cheap. If you float them on top of the water it dramatically decreases evaporation. The vessel I use doesn't have a lid that fits well if the immersion cooker is hooked to the side.Overall I would recommend it to a friend or family member and have. I hope it holds up over time. So far there have been no issues in that department.

Works well but the touch screen is a bit picky to use.
LOVE the sous vide food! This pod however is a bit picky to use, the buttons are not very responsive, they aren't even buttons, just flat marked areas to touch, I spend at least 10 minutes trying to get it turned on to where I can set the temp, time and finally start it... :( Once going, the pod works great.I have found when using just a pot of water that covering it with Glad Press & Seal keeps most of the steam in (to minimise water loss) and the temperature in check. The food turns out wonderfully every time, I've been using a lot of rubs on meats & the flavor just permeates so well and vegetables are just amazing cooked this way...so far asparagus is my favourite, they are just perfectly cooked with the sous vide,

Fiddly buttons, but works quite well
My only complaint would be the non-buttons that can be difficult to activate, it's like an underperforming touchscreen. The "buttons" do work, but it can be a bit fiddly. Other than that, it works just fine. I bought mine for $89.99, and see that the price of this unit is already well-above that. It's certainly worth $89.99, but probably not worth $120+ (which seems to be the price here on Amazon just two weeks after I purchased mine).

Three Stars
It arrived early. Had troubles with the buttons not working. But if my fingers are wet they work.

The system is great and the heater is simple and easy to use ...
I bought the heater and after the first steak I bought a larger container to cook larger products. The system is great and the heater is simple and easy to use (why by a more expensive one). very satisfied and the end result is wonderful. The only problem is that I now have to thank my dentist for turning me on to a great way of cooking.

Interfaz poco amigable y errática
Funciona y cocina bien, pero da lata al echarla a andar. No demasiado recomendable, aunque por el precio es de considerarse para el que se inicia en esto del sous vide.
