Found the book to be very interesting interesting read for individuals looking to improve their self-esteem, self-confidence and becoming more self assured and assertive.

The quality of the writing style is jarring, what is the point of having a good idea if you can't communicate it with grace? It was a pain to read and because of that I will not continue and potentially miss out on any gold in there. The consequence of bad style? We all suffer.

Great book for a 23 year old.

I think this is a great book and gave me a new perspective on what is required to be assertive and I plan to use sone of these techniques

There’s no magic pill for this sort of thing. By reading more about it and applying it as often as possible you can become better. The book explains why it is important and different ways of communicating.

As Assistant Director of Student Services for an Intermediate Unit in Pa, I used this book as a 10 week Book Study for one of our first year teachers that I coached who struggled with being assertive toward other adults that work in her classroom. This book not only helped her a great deal but I also benefited much from facilitating the book study. A segment from her written reflection was, "....I now feel capable of being assertive, and realize that assertiveness is a learned skill, not a fixed personality trait." The teacher went on to say, "I learned how to approach conflict in an assertive way whereas before I would either apologize excessively for how I was feeling, or I would have not said anything at all.....I will continue to apply the principles in the book in my professional and personal life moving forward."Thank you, Mr. Banks, for making a difference in this young teacher's life.---Dan
