The Zombi Anthology

Buy it!
Fits into my horror soundtrack collection nicely! (Frizzi, Goblin, Harrison, Carpenter, Etc). Older, more raw material from the band, shows the progress they've made. However, it's as good as any of the more recent releases, in my opinion.

Zombi's Horror Soundtrack Influenced Debut, Plus Extras.
Oddly, no reviews for this compilation have surfaced yet so I'll give it a go.The Zombi Anthology is a compilation of the band's independently released (CD-R in DVD case; 150 copies) 2001 self-titled debut album, plus the Twilight Sentinel EP from 2003. This compilation was released on CD in 2003, limited to 200 copies. The music on Zombi is numbered by Sequence 1-8 and is musically comparable to the scores of influential Italian composer Fabio Frizzi, (Zombie, The Beyond) and John Carpenter. The segments are slow, brooding, and purposely sound like a lost soundtrack to an 80's slasher film. There is very little live drums or bass, with the emphasis being the analog synth textures. It should be noted that this compilation frustratingly omits the last track from the original album, which is Sequence 9. As an owner of the original CD it's a shame to see that, as its one of the best & most diverse tracks on the record. The Twilight Sentinel EP was put together quickly in 2003 so Zombi had something to sell on tour to promote themselves, as they were still recording Cosmos at the time. The title track continues the horror soundtrack feel from their first record, with live drums and bass added. The highlight of this EP however is DMC-12 & Gemini Part 2. Fans of Zombi's later records will really enjoy these tracks as they are more musically developed and have thick atmosphere and chunky analog synth hooks. The EP also contains an alternate (and in my opinion better) version of Sequence 8 from Zombi.Even for casual Zombi fans, I still highly recommend this release. There is a lot of excellent music here for fans of horror scores & electronic in general. I personally listen to this record just as much as their later releases.Cheers.Edit: It appears Relapse Records is re-releasing Zombi on CD/Vinyl in April 2015. Sequence 9 is again absent. Bummer
