Q: does it have a setting to cook brown rice which comparatively takes longer time to cook?

No, it doesn't have a setting for a particular type of rice, HOWEVER, I've only used it once and I made black rice, which takes the longest of all. When I cook black rice on the stove it takes up to an hour and you must constantly stir or it'll stick to the pan, ugh. I love black rice, but I hate cooking it. The Black & Decker cooker must be a genius because my rice came out PERFECT!!!! All I did was set it and forget it and I was a very happy camper! I think you'll be very pleased!

Ours just stopped working after 13 months. We used it about once a week so ~50 times = Junk.

Yes, it can do it at the same time. Although I will never buy this product again or recommend anyone to get it. My rice cooker lasted about 2 weeks and it broke. I Had to put it in the garbage. :/
