Great Comprehensive Medical Resource for Emergency Preparation
Bring your own Bandages is a comprehensive book that includes information from basic survival tips to in depth coverage of medications and a vast list of medical treatments. All information has been extensively researched with “copious notes”. Though not a doctor, the author has consulted with various physicians, taken medical survival classes, sifted through a myriad of information online, and researched comprehensively. Her information is documented with numbered notes and sources cited. The idea is reiterated throughout the book that “you should not use any medication withoutconsulting a physician. Information herein is provided merely to familiarize the reader withwhat a physician may do for treatment and what medications to have on hand.”This book is based on the premise that “Medical care becomes a privilege for those who contribute to society and who chose to prepare.” If we have the supplies, medical personnel will treat us because we have what they need to treat our situation. It is eye opening and paints a realistic picture of making difficult decisions during an ongoing crisis. She begins with an explanation of possible scenarios when societies collapse, and presents differing medical situations that we would face and presents solid reasoning for maintaining and sustaining medical supplies at home. Some situations and questions addressed in this book include:Without fortified foods, how quickly would it take us to develop beriberi (thyamine deficiency)?Or how long do we need to be out in the sun for our body to absorb 10000 IU of Vitamin D?Do we know what vitamins to store and what minerals we need? What are the “three musketeers of essential minerals”?How long do you need to apply direct pressure to stop bleeding before considering using aclotting agent or tourniquet? What are the symptoms of hypothyroidism? And how would you treat it?What size SAM splint would you need to buy for a child? What are the most important tools for your home medical kit?Would you need to consider a blood type test kit and where would you get one? How much would you expect to pay? What is an IFAK and what would you put inside? This is just a sampling of information you will find covered in this book. This resource is a must have for any home to prepare for emergencies.

Great emergency preparedness must have!
What I really liked about this book is learning various procedures of managing emergencies and obtaining supplies should it not be available. This world continues to show uncertainty. With recent circumstances and upheaval, the world has had first hand experience of shortages in food and temporal supplies. Medical supplies were especially hard to acquire because clinics and hospitals had first priority. With Toilet paper, hygiene supplies, PPE, and other products being extremely hard to acquire, I noticed that even regular 1st aid, health, and necessary supplies were being depleted from the shelves. While the author maintains that consulting professionals is of utmost importance when it comes to treatment, she encourages us to be self reliant and prepare for the time that there will not always be supplies on the shelf or treatment available. I also like that this book reads like subject material rather than page to page. I can research most any subject regarding simple procedures and treatments to find the information I'm after within a limited amount of time. Sometimes I find a remedy is only a little soap and water, or salve. Other times, I've discovered information that prompts questions to ask my doctor that I had never considered. Most exciting is learning about various drugs, remedies, and antidotes that I've not discovered before. Who knew that activated charcoal has been used in emergency rooms to treat overdoses of even common over the counter medications? She has put together several lists that suggest useful items that would be beneficial to have in your first aid kits and homes when the day arrives you may need them. It has prompted thoughtful consideration into how prepared I am if the doctor or pharmacy cannot provide these items to treat me. We would all do well to be responsible in our efforts to be prepared.

Outstanding Resource
For the past year or so, I have been following your articles. I read most all of them, many I print out and file in a three-ring binder for future grid-down reference. I have always been particularly interested in home health, first aid and medical related articles. Recently I received a copy of BRING YOUR OWN BANDAGES... and have been reading it ever since. What an excellent resource! I so appreciate the tremendous time and energy commitment you invested in this book; it will become a staple for anyone truly dedicated to providing care for their families. It is well written, organized into convenient chapters and headings, and covers so many of the things I want and need to know. And your very thorough section on what items and supplies to have on hand is outstanding. For me, and for others who are benefiting from this excellent publication, THANK YOU !

preparedness bring peace
Jennifer's book is packed with so much information. Although written in a direct manner, there are anecdotes of humor and a lightness that keeps you reading. She has an engaging way of writing so that learning about supplies that are necessary to have on hand in case of an emergency is not only informative, but a pleasure to read.I would follow this author and anticipate another book.
