Q: Will this accept the plano edge series hook retainer inserts?

Yes, I'm pretty sure the terminal compartments fit all the edge series.

Q: What are the maximun number of compartments?

do not waste your money on any of these types of boxes. I bought a couple about 6 months ago. One of the lids are warped so bad, the top can no longer be closed. It was not left out in the sun. The box is stored inside my house when not fishing. Shame on Plano for not field testing these boxes more. A complete waste of a lot of money.

Q: How much space is between the yellow dividers and lid? Will hooks and swivels move between compartments when it’s on its side in the bag?

I’ve had very very litte to no movement from one compartment to the next, I have so tiny clips and swivels that I’ve had one or two end up in different spots, but that’s it. That’s also being tossed around and bouncing around in the boat on rough water. I’m rough with them and still little to no movement between compartments

Q: Is there any difference between the #.1, .New Version, and 3700 Standard in the style selection?

I’m not positive what the differences are but looking at them in the picture and owning several of the 3700 first series. I can honestly say I doubt that there are enough upgrades to warrant the price difference. You will be happy with the first series all of mine are still working great and I would buy more now if I needed them. Good luck to you, hope that helps
