Excellent quick read of the power of herbalism!
As a an avid believer of natural products and spiritual discernment, it was a true joy reading this book. It not only allowed me to tap into The history of our ancestors, but it invigorated a commitment in me to do better. Better in realizing the power of the body to self heal and how nature has given us every good and perfect gift directly from her hand. The historical reviews and the explanation of each herb was a wonderful surprise and one that led me down a wormhole to explore herbalists and their desire to connect their wisdom with those who needed healing. Congratulations on the book and hope there is a part 2 and continuation of the special teaching of herbalism.

Food is thy medicine and medicine is thy food!!!
As a fan of herbal medicine, I enjoyed reading about Black herbalists, the evolution of herbalism, and unsung conjurers and root workers. The illustration of Black excellence was clear as I navigated this book. It is a great read for a novice in herbalism because the information piques curiosity without being overpowering.

Fascinating exploration into the relationship between Herbalism and traditional African spirituality
This is a well written, in-depth book which mainly explores herbalism and its impact/role on the lives and cultures of Africans and there kin in the western world. The part of the book were I learned the most explored the lives of black herbalists who used traditional medicine to make an impact in their communities and even influence major events that took place in the past. The most fascinating account is Francois Mackandal, someone who I never heard of until this book. His use of traditional herbalism to fight French oppression and the mans life in general is definitely a highlight of the book.If you want to learn about relationship between Herbalism, Africans and there descendants in the new world, this is the book for you. Unfortunately many African Americans have little to no knowledge about the ways of medicine that there ancestors practices. I would encourage more people to get to know the way of their ancestors practices and beliefs.

A Must-have book for those with an interest in holistic healing or black culture
I thoroughly enjoyed "The Divine Fiat." Mr. Vaughn encapsulted black history with a scintillating account of the variety of natural healing methods available, and significantly, the origin of those remedies. In an age where the preferred methodology for any malady is to ply patients with opioids, depressants, stimulants and anti-biotics, Mr. Vaughn shows us that black culture knew how to cure the sick, centuries before such drugs were even invented. If you like history, or natural medicine, or even would like to know more about black history, and a cavalcade of accomplishments, this is a must-read!
