Arrogant Double Bastard Double Burn Habañero Hot Sauce - A sauce almost as big as the beer that's in it - ALMOST. Merciful beings that we are we chose to utilize none other than Habañeros to dilute it. If you're tasting this hot sauce as you read this you either love Habañeros or you just lost a bet. (Not yet personally familiar with Habañeros? No matter, it's a s-h-o-r-t learning curve). Double Bastard Ale Double Burn Habañero is a surprisingly well balanced hot sauce to those fire eaters who love Habañeros, and a singular pain to those who are unworthy. "Introduced in 1997, Arrogant Bastard Ale immediately developed a following among "those who know" (a.k.a. "the Worthy"). Arrogant Bastard Ale is an aggressive beer and not for the timid or weak. As such, it demands pairing with food that takes the same stance. So when our similarly (and appropriately) arrogant friends at Carlsbad Gourmet approached us to collaborate on a hot sauce recipe made with Arrogant Bastard, not only did we say yes - we said, "Let's make three!"

After One Taste, You'll Throw Stones at Tabasco Sauce
As bona fide "chileheads" and unrepentant "hopheads," my wife and I are always on the lookout for new culinary and craft beer experiences to satisfy our admittedly extreme tastes. We're huge fans of habañero chiles--jalapeños are far too mild--and even bigger fans of the amazing beers produced by the Stone Brewing Company of Escondido, California. One of Stone's beers that we most enjoy is a seasonally released strong ale called Double Bastard, an amped-up version of the flagship Arrogant Bastard ale that put Stone on the map for craft beer connoisseurs everywhere. At 11.2% ABV, Double Bastard is a strong, hoppy beer lover's dream come true. What could be better, then, than a hot pepper sauce that combines the eye-watering heat and distinctive flavor of habañero chiles with the rich body and mouth-puckering bitterness of Double Bastard? Well, the answer is easy--nothing could be better.Double Bastard Double Burn Habañero Hot Sauce is distributed by Carlsbad Gourmet, a craft food purveyor located in the small seaside village of the same name just north of San Diego and within several miles of Stone's world headquarters in Escondido, California. The sauce contains fairly many ingredients, which normally may not be a good thing, but which I think, in this case, gives it a unique, complex flavor. Double Bastard Ale is second on the ingredient list, followed by vinegar, honey, lemon juice, sugar cane juice, garlic powder, habañero powder and several other things. The sauce is quite thin and features visible seeds and small chunks of chile floating in it. The bottle does not have a shaker top on it, so you have to be careful when you pour it lest you get way too much. Of course, the Double Bastard gargoyle is prominent on the label, which mimics that of the beer bottle. So how does it taste? Well, taste is, of course, highly subjective. If I say, "It's fantastic," that doesn't mean anything. What tastes great to me may be inedible to someone else. My taste buds detect, right up front, the characteristic, distinctive, unmistakable habañero taste, combined with more sweetness than I expected. The taste of Double Bastard ale is not apparent; nor is there any bitterness associated with the hops in the beer (it's just neat to know it's in there). Double Bastard Double Burn Habañero Hot Sauce IS very hot, but the sweetness masks some of the chile heat. It's dangerously approachable, but it can sneak up on you because the heat of the habañeros is cumulative. A few dollops will add excellent flavor and spiciness to any dish that you would sprinkle Tabasco on, lending a more multi-dimensional taste sensation along with its heat.Double Bastard Double Burn Habañero Hot Sauce now has a permanent place in my pantry, just as my dedicated beer refrigerator is never short of 22-ounce bottles of Stone Double Bastard ale. Talk about your perfect combinations...

Great flavor, non-existent heat.
Habanero peppers are nearly at the bottom of the ingredients list. I love the flavor, but I think I might have to add some "Reaper Squeezin's" to bring the heat level up to my taste.

Sweet Heat!!!
I don't have much to add to the detailed evaluation from Terry Sunday except that I agree completely. My simplistic first impressions were: It's very hot, it has great habenero flavor, and it's sweet--I love it! I'm definitely a repeat buyer!By the way, if you want to add mucho heat without changing the flavor, consider Satans Blood pepper extract--I love that, but be careful cause a drop will do ya!!!

Very mild heat with little vinegar taste.
It's a bit on the sweet side, has a moderately decent flavor however the heat is very mild. Taco Bell and Del Taco both have sauces multitudes hotter than this stuff. I think this might be the most mild hot sauce I've ever purchased. It kind of reminds me of jack in the box hot sauce that comes with their 2 for 99 cent tacos

Mild as
I've had hotter sh@ts than this.
