The writing is fine. The book a little damaged but it’s fine.
The writing covers the timeline of Mary’s life and explains issues and challenges but it’s as if you’re reading through an outline or bullet points. There’s no art or inspiration in the writing. Also, the illustrations are fine. I have certainly seen worse but again, from an illustration viewpoint it’s like they covered the basics using pro-create with a few more minutes spent on couple pages. It seems like people who create curriculum said we need to write a kids book! And put some activities at the back. So it’s fine. We’ll use it. But i was hoping for better writing.

First, but not the last!
Great story about Mary’s need to know and learn. She loves math and is good at it. And each time she gets to work at what she loves it only deepens her need to go further to understanding how things work. Mary becomes the engineer she was destined to be. Destined through her curiosity and persistence. Doesn’t let any initial obstacle stop her. Neither will you after reading about her!!

Good book for the girl interested in STEM
I work in STEM and have for over 30+ years. I think it is important for kids to know how this field started and how woman did impact history. I love this story of how Mary Jackson impacted the field and what she did to overcome the obstacles.

For Every Family of Young Children and For Every Elementary Classroom
Andi Diehn’s books are very inspiring. She begins this series with intriguing facts in poetic form. From childhood to retirement or death, Ms. Diehn chronicles the growth and contributions made by a person who started life a humble child and developed into an amazing adult anyone would be proud to emulate. Fun activities, thought provoking “quote connections”, an interesting timeline, and a very clear, concise glossary end each book. Excellent books.
