Five Stars
Can't give an opinion because it was a gift for a college student.

botched publication
Kessler's text is ,as ever, admirable but Toronto press has made a mess up of the apparatus -we have come to expect the usua luseless murky opaque black and white photos The press has provided no bibliography again we have come to expect this but a first for me is to number the notesfrom 1- 1447 ie not by chapter and it is often impossible to move from a note to its source eg note 1447 "hamburger , " vision and the Vericona " 320 -321 but where is that? i disagree with Pentcheva's praise for " bringing for the results of newest research " - you cannot find it and Kumler 's" tour de force " Again I repeat 1447notes some withe the source some /many without . one wonders if Pentcheva and Kumler have not seen the book but simply read a text . the paper back is expensive for such a shoddy production Are you now in academia allowed to quote without reference ?

poorly digitised
An excellent account of medieval religious art by an expert. But it is very expensive and the digital version does not provide the ability to click on pictures and zoom in on them, as many other art books have at no greater cost. This means that details are difficult if not impossible to make out. This is not good enough for such an important art book or for the very high price charged.
