Cheap plastic parts
Key components are plastic, and broke immediately.

Loud!
My girls, 9 and 12, were able to put this together on their own, but one of the pieces does not fit correctly as the holes are now drilled large enough for the right hardware.

Robot Camp Mainstay
We use this for STEM summer camps and have 10 - 25 kids aged 6 - 12 years old building their own robots at the same time. The end result is pretty satisfying. The kids like their robots and they stand up to a fair amount of wear-and-tear at least during camp. I talked to two kids from 2021 summer and both said their ReCos are still working after one year.Building it is challenging and kids do get frustrated. There are a couple sticky spots where the many kids make mistakes, have to backtrack and troubleshoot, but for our purposes that's okay. The instructions are picture only and on a few steps it's really hard to figure out what they depict. With our help, kids have the robot finished in about four hours of total worktime. My major complaint is that the wires connecting the speaker are incredibly delicate. If these break, they need to be soldered or ReCo won't make any noise. I always dread this step but ReCo will probably stick around at our robot camp for awhile.

You bet they are difficult to assemble...but when you're done!.....wow
Took me about 5 hours to assemble and yes, the picture instructions can be confusing but when you're done (and after going back a couple times) it is really an amazing little thing (AND I'm NOT calling it a "toy"). For the reviewer who couldn't "program it" you use the REMOTE CONTROL!. I have 3 grandsons across the country around the ages of 8-10 and now ALL of them are getting one. Yes, I am doing the assembly since I think I know how to do it now. The movements, voice, songs, dances, etc. are amazing and I don't think this one will be left in the toy box. I think these are terrific for the price!

Hours of assembly and doesn’t work
Took hours to assemble. Very frustrating for dad and son alike. Worked for about five mins after assembly before it broke down. Do not recommend

No Programming Instructions
I haven't finished assembling this product, so I can't comment yet on its mechanical reliability. However, the robot is a disaster when it comes to documentation. I powered the robot up during assembly to confirm that the drive train worked, and sure enough, only 1 of the two motors moved. (It turned out that the motor was frozen, and appears to work now that it's been un-frozen.). When I tried to check out the robot after re-assembling the body (without the caterpillar tracks or wheels) I somehow got it into an unknown mode (programming mode?) where it wouldn't respond to commands as it had before. (It appeared to be entering the commands into memory and then re-playing them some time later, but there was no way to tell when it would stop entering the commands and start re-playing them.) There is _NO_ documentation at all about how to program the robot or enter and exit whatever modes it has. Turning the robot off and on again doesn't help. I finally removed the batteries from the robot and that appears to have reset it.Save yourself the frustration. Don't buy this product.

Hours of adult assembly; leg wouldn’t snap on
I bought this from a homeschool curriculum catalog, not realizing it was a kit (my fault), but figured the instructions would be clear enough for my 12 yr old daughter to follow. No such luck. My 16 yr old engineer-minded son saved Christmas and assembled this for her, but it still took nearly three hours for him to complete it. The last step, putting legs on, proved to be disheartening…one of the legs didn’t line up and wouldn’t snap into place. So it’s a one-legged robot. It’s also quite loud, especially in rooms w/ hard floors. If given the choice again, I’d never buy it.
