Till We Have Faces: A Reading Companion: an any day companion for an everyday reader

Years ago I read CSL's Till We Have Faces and simply didn't "get it," despite having read The Four Loves upon which it's somewhat based. This bothered me as I learned that TWHF was Lewis' favorite book. It's not a favorite of many, which saddened him. With any other author, I'd just give up, but Lewis is my favorite author. When I heard of Christine Norvell's "reading companion" I had to get it. I read both books together, a chapter at a time. First her analysis, then Lewis' narrative. TWHF remains a challenging book, but at least I finally understand it. Like the annotated Pilgrim's Regress, there are a few of Lewis' works that need some help in grasping. If, like me, you want to give TWHF another go, get Norvell's book and things should begin to make sense.

Really does the job. Brings out factors from Lewis' The Four Loves, that I shall have to read again. Makes a story with an unlikable character as the center, and pulls off her redemption from herself. This guide brings out a load of things from Lewis' other writings,Greek literature and other sources I had missed on my first reading 40 years ago. Brings out motivations I misunderstood. Very useful.

I enjoyed the new addition of the study questions in this companion reading guide, as well as this guide definitely brings depth in unpacking the characters and symbolism. This book is great for teachers, students as well as anyone who enjoys the treasures found in C.S. Lewis's writings!

This book brings context and color to a classic by freshly painting the scenes for us and offering a pathway to understand and imagine the imagery of C.S. Lewis.

The additions Christine added to this revised edition are great gains for the reader. The discussion questions are thoughtful and deep, especially the motif and theme portions.
