Good beginner set
I have never used a whetstone before, so for my first attempt, I picked up this very affordable set and I'm satisfied. I haven't quite gotten the feel for it yet but the instructions are so poorly translated that I ended up needing to refer to YouTube videos for help. Otherwise, everything seems to be of good quality and it gets the job done!

it's a good stone set
The stones were very flat out of the box with very minimal prep work needed on them. I recommend soaking them for closer to 10 minutes as they seem to take a little longer than my other stones to get fully saturated. The included angle guide is best suited for smaller knives. Overall they got my work and kitchen knives back to their razor sharp edges and the stones still look great.

Know what this is for and do not expect too much from it, especially for straight razors
OK, first of all, this is a great sharpening set to get started with for the price. The flattening stone is a must and is pretty good quality. For basic knives, this is great, just slow for finishing. Just know if you are trying to do precision sharpening like with razors it is very tough to do it with the 3K 8K block included. Yeah, expect to be popping hairs if you finish with the 8K stone and strop after for a straight razor even with tons of time and careful passes. It's better with many final passes on a finishing stone. Let me explain. The 3K/8K blocks are really hard, the razor skips along them without sticking as they would on another type e.g. a Norton 4K/8K combination. If you compare these two side by side there is no comparison. With that said the Norton is like 10X the cost, and that is just a mid-grade one. You can do fine sharpening on razors you just need to do many passes and expect the finish not to be fantastic. For final finishing you have to use lightening pressure and many passes on knives to get performance of better 8K stones on knives. Under a microscope the edges produced from the 8K block are much rougher than that of higher end 8K stones. One really positive thing, the hard 1K stone is great to clean up my Imperia LaRoca razor finishing stone, even other 8K stones, really clean final polish to remove scratches after leveling. So yes, great value, just know you are getting really hard stones that will take time, patience and technique if you are looking to get blades really sharp and know the limits if you are using this for razors.

Updated - Resolved (Stone won’t fit in the base)
Update(old review below)I received a replace with pretty much no questions asked, within 2 days. The new set has been milled properly and the stone fits in the holder with the rubber base attached as its was intended to.changed my 1 star to 5 stars for great customer service.I used the stone and it really did work well. If your a novice don't expect to have razor sharp knives on your first , my first take wasnt very good, my second was better and the knives where much much sharper but not quite cutting through paper with ease. Need to practice more on my end.Well I haven’t tried it out yet so I can’t comment on how the stone works yet but the reason I haven’t is because the stone along with the rubber base won’t fit in the bamboo holder. If you remove the rubber base then the stone moves around the holder. It looks like the holding base was killed incorrectly , on the one corner you can see the pilot hole sticks out a tiny bit and apparently the right side was not milled up to that edge making it slightly too narrow to insert the stone . You can also see ridges where the bit simply didn’t create a flate surfaceI’m hoping this was just a too long defect and they’ll send a replacement we will see

Great value. Excellent kit for beginners.
So this is not my first whetstone, but it's my first decent whetstone kit. My comparison is with cheap whetstones that you buy at grocery stores or Harbor Freight. Why was I putting my valuable knives against cheap whetstones? So I upgraded to diamond sharpeners of various kinds which I'll need to go back to review. But it seems as if the best sharpeners out there are still actual whetstones if you can master the art of sharpening (spoiler alert - I have not) so I have always thought of getting a fancy whetstone set. This one is budget friendly, looks fantastic, and has a lot of extras which make it a really great value. Note that you are getting 4 different grits, 2 different levelers, an angle guide, 2 whetstone holders, and a wooden base. I even used the leveler to fix my parent's whetstone which had lost its levelness. The kit is easy to use, hard to master. Without the angle guide, I had mixed results. Sometimes I'd get very sharp, sometimes not so much. With the angle guide, I consistently did pretty well, so it's clearly user error. My whetstone came slightly damaged (see corner chip). I thought about reducing a star for that but the reality is that it was probably an accident and doesn't affect usage so knocking off a star is probably harsh. In the future, if I get good at this, I may add other whetstones of different grits (maybe 600, 800, 2000, 4000, 6000). Strongly encourage that you watch and rewatch multiple sharpening videos before using this if you are a beginner like me.

Great Stone -updated
Very satisfied with the value of this package. I have used it on a few of my knives now and it was a great experience. I had a cheap Harbor Freight stone previously and this set is on a different level. The stones are very dense and uniform with no imperfections that I could notice. The operation was very smooth and there was a noticeable metal dusting on the stone as I worked the knife. The edge that I made was definitely better than what I started with but I really need to work on my technique and different angles, etc. If your interested in sharpening your own edges I don't think you can go wrong with this one.October 2021As this is my most liked review I thought I would update it. Used it a couple more times and still a great set. All my knives are noticibly sharper after the process and I can do that cool paper cutting test that everyone does after sharpening. Cut my finger yesterday with one of my knives so can confirm they are sharp.
