adequate, be sure size is what you want
this is a decent backpack style bag for carrying groceries in an apartment/condo situation where the car is far from the residence. it also seems like it would travel well as checked luggage (i'd probably add a backup lock/clip on the top, but that may not really be needed, and i'd probably double-bag dry stuff since the top is not watertight). all in all, a decent bag that has no zipper to break and that can be carried as a backpack when traveling. some of the edges on the metal of the top clip could be rounded better to avoid scratching or snagging other luggage.i got two of these bags from different vendors giving different sizes - same bag. the cargo space is about 12x12x30 inches closed. the "24" inch width given by some vendors is a measurement of the bag flattened and spread out. the 36 inch height does not account for the space needed to close the bag. this is not a bad thing - the old monster duffels are too big to check for air travel.i note the other reviewer with concerns for durability. i have not carried large weights in this bag for extended periods of time, so i just don't know. i personally really need a hip belt when i go deep woods backpacking anyway - i am in good shape, but not great shape. this bag also has the issue of a top opening - rain would be a problem. i would agree that there are better deep woods backpacks. anyway, it seems at least as durable as most heavy travel duffels, perhaps more so since it has no zipper.

A Camping Bag
I needed a bag for Camping with the scouts. I wanted to be able to put everything I needed... Tent, sleeping back, clothes, etc in 1 bag that I could put on my back, but my day pack on backwards and I was ready to hike in to the site. Most of these hikes are not going to be very far, but they are going to be through the woods and over small paths and I would rather make 1 trip instead of multiple. The bag did the job. It is a very sturdy bag. The straps are not very padded but the seem sturdy enough to make the trips in and out of the woods and are very adjustable. The groumets and eye hook are also very sturdy. I had it OVERSTUFFED for the first trip, and it was tossed around and handled it quite well. The "Very Good" seemed to mean they were in very good shape. The previous owner had labeled them, but for the most part they were almost like new. I ordered 2 bags and 1 of them had some offensive language on it, but with a sharpie and some creativity no one will know. A very good bag that should last for many years and many trips.

Missed the mark but I still have faith Rothco can do right.
It's worth nothing while almostEverything is to spec, the locking pin is thinner than military issue and you could feel that one end of that's clipped and inside the bag body was sharp... that's not supposed to be that way. I've owned over 4 of these throughout my military service and oddly, the way the grommets are inserted is bottom side up. Meaning the smoother flanged portion should actually be the side that you insert the pin into, they've overlooked this on the particular bag i returned. The grommets were also dented. Idk who was working the assembly line that day but sadly this particular bad was sub par. I'm hoping the next bag corrects the issue.

OK Bag -- Very good service
I ordered a "like new" condition bag (advertised as having no holes) -- however, the bag that arrived had numerous small holes on the bottom -- contacted the seller -- they apologized for their error, and were very agreeable and flexible in making the situation right -- they offered me multiple remedies ranging from returning the bag at their costs for a complete refund to keeping the bag and getting a very decent refund to bring my costs in line with a lesser quality bag -- I decided to keep the bag because I have another purpose for the bag where the small holes won't matter -- I'm happy with the lesser quality product at the reduced price -- I'm also happy with the seller for their efforts to make things right

maybe a diecent bag, only time will tell.
I really don't know where to begin with why i only gave this duffle bag only three stars. first the fabric is thin, yes thin. so thin that when i got it it fit in the mailbox with plenty of space to put my hand in and pull it out. next, there is no lining in the bag that keeps it somewhat water resistant. If you use this bag for camping/ backpacking, your gonna want to put your things in water resistant/ proof bags. overall i had a really nice backpack duffle probably from the vietnam war that actually makes this bag look like a potatoe sack. i guess when you outsource to china quality goes out the window. even though I've said all this, the bag is its stated dimensions and it may last a long time, as long as you don't let mice near it or thorny vegetation. i mostly got this bag for a bugout bag

Bag just arrived and looks great, but...smelly. Very smelly.
Bag just arrived and looks great and seems well made, but...there is a coating on the interior that has a sickly sweet smell to it. I had intended to use the bag as a laundry bag for take my clothes to a laundromat a couple blocks away, but I can't reasonably put clean clothes (after washing) in it and not expect them to smell. I'm going to throw the bag in the wash and hopefully the smell goes away, but as it is from a plasticized coating (waterproofing?) inside the bag, I'm a little skeptical.

Its ok BUT...
It aint anything like the one I bought years ago...Aint even as big and the fact its made of nylon rather than canvas...Which I reckon I missed readin in the description...So thats on me...Even so...This bag just doesnt measure up to my expectations.Im thinkin this bag would be more usable as an urban bug out bagrather than a wilderness or even a universal bug out bag.
