absolutely perfect for 3 gallons of kraut
I have lactofermented cabbage (kraut, kimchi, and pao cai) for years in half gallon mason jars. We eat a lot of fermented cabbage per year. I recently snatched a 3 gallon Ohio Stoneware crock in great condition at an estate sale but it had no lid and no weights. No worries, used a plate and a filled mason jar as a weight. But I worried that my plate might crack/break and ruin 3 gallons (15#) of fermenting cabbage so a treated myself to this weight set made by the same people who made my crock. It's amazingly effective. The balanced 6# of weight holds the cabbage under the brine perfectly. The size is ideally suited to my crock. The materials are tested safe. It stores in the bottom of the crock. It's a dream.I'll be buying another set to get 12# of weight total on my ferment in the future.[recipe: 15# of shredded or thin sliced cabbage. Reserve 4 intact clean out leaves. Place cabbage into 3gal crock 5# at a time strongly massaging in 3Tbs of canning or sea salt for each 5# batch. Do not use iodized table salt. Let sit 30mins to 1hr to draw out cabbage juices. Press down cabbage in juices until the juices rise a minimum 1" above cabbages in the crock. Cabbage must remain covered with brine. Add a brine (1.5T salt per quart of filtered water) if sufficient brine doesn't form naturally. Place the four whole leaves over the cabbage and place the weights over the top. Cover. Let sit 2-3 weeks at 65-75F. Jar and refrigerate or can for storage.]

Good, heavy weights
Weighting down cabbage in the crock for making kraut

Heavy and durable
I like the weight of these but I absolutely cannot stand the texture of them. That's a personal phobia that I cannot touch chalk and it feels chalky to me. I will be using gloves with them because I like them so much and they are definitely beneficial to my craft.

Great Replacement
Cannot imagine making Kraut without the weight in my crock.

Good weight
Easy to clean, good weight. I have used it twice now to make sauerkraut. I use this and a 3 gallon food safe bucket. The stones overlap a bit but it works great. Love the fresh kraut.

Highly recommended for a perfect batch of sauerkraut.
They fit perfectly in either of my three-gallon crocks. Just the right amount of weight!I am a bit concerned about using them in a batch of red cabbage for red sauerkraut as they are porous and I fear that they will take that color and maybe pass it onto other, white batches. Not a worry as at this price, I can buy two more sets.

Great in fermentation pots of all kinds- just measure your pot
I inherited an old blue crown fermentation crock which is a great decoration, but I also wanted to used it practically. They're no longer made and you can't find weights for those specific pots anymore, but when I started searching for something I could use I came across these Ohio Stoneware ones, and it works great. The only caveat is that you need to be sure to measure the diameter of the inside of YOUR pot and use that information rather than the gallons. For instance, I purchased the 3 gallon weight set, but it works in my 5 gallon fermentation crock. So do not take volume for granted! It still works, but you need to do a little more leg work!
