Ingredients: Bakell’s Food Grade Dusts may contain one or more of the following food grade products depending on which edible dust type and color you're purchasing: Sugar, Gum Arabic, Tapioca Starch, Glucose Powder, Acacia, Color Additives including food grade mica based pearlescent pigments, Corn Starch, Maltodextrin, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxide, FD&C Colors, FD&C Red 40, FD&C Blue 1, FD&C Blue 2, FD&C Yellow 5, FD&C Yellow 6, E171, Carmine, Cornstarch & Silicon Dioxide.

Q: This says it's vegan, however, the list of ingredients says that it contains carmine? carmine is crushed up bugs which makes this not vegan

Carmine is made from bugs but red dye 40 and 2 are made from coal tar. It is a personal choice. One is bugs and one can cause cancer that is made from coal tar.

Q: For a deep red macaron, do you suggust painting or dusting a white macaron or a hot pink macaron (red food gel doesn't work on macarons)?

I would use a small amount red gel in your batter, then use the red luster dust with clear vodka to paint on top of your baked macarons . Unfortunately it takes a lot of gel color to get a deep dark red which would effect your batter consistency. .
