This Book Tells About The History of The American River Canyon In California.
This book tells about the history of the American River Canyon. Here are some of the things that this book mentions in it: At one time, there were 24 major bridges constructed in 50 miles of the American River that is included in this book. Unfortunately, there are no presently known pictures of seven of the bridges. Reamers Dam was the first dam built in the canyon in 1865. Birdsall Dam was the second oldest dam in the canyon. It was constructed in 1880 and operational until 1954. The book has a list of private toll road companies and the locations of their operations. The nine mile Colfax Iowa Hill Road was described as the steepest, narrowest, and roughest road in the state. It opened in 1854. Some of the pictures in this book include pictures of the following: A photo of the mining town of Maine Bar along the American River in 1858, other photos from the 1800’s, pictures of dams, and pictures of Lake Clementine.
