Ultra: The Underworld of Italian Football

Brilliant!
Providing an entertaining, interesting and very well researched read 'Ultra' tells the tale and history of the Ultra world, all whist managing to follow Cosenza on their rise up the pyramid of Italian football. Absolutely well worth a read for any fan of football or Italian culture. Outstanding stuff as always from Tobias Jones.

Fascinating but disorganized
There is a huge amount of wonderful storytelling in this book. It shows you the entire ultra culture from good to bad - and there's a lot of bad. But the constant jumps through time and space make it nearly impossible to find a narrative.

Excellent read
This is an excellent book and really shows what a wide ranging, multi faceted subject the Ultra movement is and that is definitely not one to be disregarded as simply hooliganism. As the author states early on, there are so many groups and teams that it would be impossible to cover everything (and this wouldn't please everyone) but I think by touching on various groups across Italy whilst focussing in on the fascinating characters who follow Coszena, we really do get a real grasp of what makes these groups what they are.The book seems to take a much darker tone towards the end which is an unfortunate reflection on where society is at currently. Some of it makes Ultra behaviour in the past seem almost tame in comparison.Highly recommended, a brilliant read.

Great book
Amazingly structured look at the ultra culture in Italy. You get lost in the stands reading this book which is an amazing feeling especially at the moment when we can’t go! Haha. Fantastic though and gives you afew surprises at just how vital some of the groups are to Italian culture
