A joy to read
I bought the kindle edition and am so very pleased I did. Throughout the book Elizabeth Barton makes reference to paintings, poetry and other quilter's work.and by tapping on the reference you can go directly to a site to see or read exactly what she is suggesting you refer or compare to. She frequently refers to illustrations within the book and, again, the kindle edition means you can immediately jump back or forward to those illustrations. I would say this is not so much a 'how to book' but a 'thinking and understanding book'. I have enjoyed reading it. In fact, unlike some books where I am anxious to rush through the book, I have found myself savouring this book. What she tells you is quite probably already known to you but they way she tells you makes you think. I have already reread many parts and I think I will be enjoying it over and over again. I am pleased I bought it.

Practical and hands-on book
The seven steps are clearly explained and beautifully illustrated with the author's work. She even makes the effort to demonstrate what doesn't work so we can really see and understand the lesson point. It would have been nice maybe to show some other artists' work alongside Elizabeth's as her interest appears to be focussed on the built environment and for variety. However, the book really delivers and I would recommend it.

Not a stitching book
This book is not a "how to make a quilt" book. It is a book about design, and how to make informed fabric choices. I don't think it is a beginners book, but if you have experience and would like to move onto other areas, this book is very good, clear explanations and plenty of photographs.

A book for serious would-be quilt artists
I had previously done an online course with Elizabeth Barton so knew a little what to expect and I wasn't disappointed. A book to be read and re-read with lots of really usable information about design and colour choices. The exercises are worth doing, too, not just gimmicks. In short, a book packed with essentials for anyone serious about designing their own art quilts.

Lovely and truly inspiring
Found this book very interesting with appealing designs. A bit too much colour theory as I tend to work by instinct, and find too much thinking about it spoils my creativity. Loved the designs based on architecture as I find it very inspiring.

Fascinating development of design
This is an excellent design book, I have no formal art training but found it easy to follow with well structured development of projects and ideas. Have already recommended it to artist friends who have now purchased it

An interesting approach to design
I really appreciate her advice on designing, as it is something I struggle with. It will help me to share ideas with others in my group as we work together.
