100 very enjoyable puzzles - but not in the Middleton league
Quite an enjoyable set of puzzles - and great to see something new available. They are shorter and easier than the NY Times puzzles as even the ones labeled "Hard" are not that difficult. But, all said, I had a very enjoyable time with these and would purchase future volumes published by this group.

Good introduction to acrostics - not too difficult
Acrostics are to crosswords what chess is to checkers, and if you're new to them, this book is a good place to start. There are 100 puzzles, 20 easy, 40 medium, 40 hard. The easy ones are indeed extremely easy. The hard ones are not too hard: comparable to the puzzles in Ashley's books and quite a bit easier than the challenging ones from the New York Times series:The New York Times Acrostic Puzzles Volume 10: 50 Engaging Acrostics from the Pages of The New York TimesPositives: The book begins with an excellent introduction which outlines solving techniques in more detail that I've seen anywhere. The layout is clear and easy-to-read, and it seems to be well proofread: so far, I haven't found a single misprint or cluing error.Negatives: The acrostics here are unusually short: between 100 and 120 characters, rather than the 150-250 length which is traditional. And the clues are somewhat pedestrian, especially when compared with the zingy ones in the Cox/Rathvon puzzles. And (a problem for purists) the constructors did not observe Kingsley's "rule 6": more than one letter from a clue word sometimes appears in the same quote word (though in fairness, this didn't seriously detract from solving enjoyment).Worth getting, both for acrostics addicts and folks just getting started.

Inconvenient
Found the "easy" puzzles really easy, but OK as a warm up,and found the print size nice and clear. My complaint is that the book is not spiral bound. I usually workthese puzzles in bed, and ended up cutting out the pages so thatI could work on the left side more easily.

Not too hard but not too easy
I've enjoyed this Acrostics book. The New York Times puzzles are too hard for me, but I also don't like puzzles that I can breeze through without any challenge. This book strikes a perfect balance.

Puzzle Baron's Acrostics
I bought this one because I have all the others. I found even the ones described as "hard" to be much too easy. May serve as a tutorial for those who have never done acrostics, and you can make up games for yourself, like how few clues do you have to guess before you can just go ahead and fill everything in.

Love those Acrostics!
I have only been doing the Puzzle Baron's Acrostics, which I am enjoying. They are shorter and can be completed in an hour or so. I do like the longer ones in the other books, but haven't had time to do them as yet. Have had New York Times books before. They are a more challenging, but good for long winter evenings or hot summer afternoons...always love them. And thank you, Amazon, for your great variety of items and excellent service. I am already choosing Christmas and Birthday gifts for the rest of the year!Best Regards, Marilyn La Croidx

Loved it!
I absolutely loved this Acrostics book! I did all 100 puzzles and now I want more. If you are beginner, it starts out with easy puzzles and then moves on to medium and hard puzzles.

Cosswords with a subtle difference
A crossword puzzler's delight as not only do you have to solve the clues there is a quotation to complete. First discovered the acrostics in the 70's and then they became unobtainable. So pleased to re-discover them.

The book was well presented and good quality but the grading is given as 1 because I was personally disappointed as it was produced in the USA so, therefore, answers were not general knowledge to me and, of course, they spell their words different to us so was not as straightforward as I expected. I attempted nearly half of them then discarded the book.
