BI-MTL 3" HOLESAW IRWIN

Very heavy duty sturdy and sharp holesaw. Would buy over and over again. I would also recommend to anyone do use this product.

I was recently suckered into making a pair of cornhole game boxes for my lady friend. The requirements of the game call for a 6" hole to be located exactly 9" down and 12" over from one end of the 2' by 4' box.The bit doesn't come with the necessary mandrel but that wasn't a problem for me as I just used the mandrel I had earlier purchased for another hole saw. Those mandrels hold a small drill bit in the center to use as a guide for hole placement. The sheer size and bulk of the hole saw covered any direct view of the penciled in mark I'd made on my panel. It took a bit of work to get the tip of that small drill bit centered on the hole. I had coupled the hole saw to a rather hefty DeWalt corded hammer drill and touched the trigger. Even though I had what I thought was control of the drill using both handles, the drill took an immediate hop out of the hole the second the larger outside cutting surface started to bite in. I couldn't stop it. I ended up with a hole not where I wanted it to be.Thinking about my mistakes, here's what I did to prevent a repeat: 1) I clamped down the workpiece. 2) I predrilled a small 1/4" hole exactly where I wanted the center of the bigger hole to be. This allowed me to see exactly where I was drilling. 3) I located the resulting hole by feel without engaging the teeth of the hole saw and eased it down. 4) Making sure I was higher than the work piece so I could use my weight to control the drill, I EASED the teeth of the saw down into the workpiece with an absolute death grip on the drill. SUCCESS!!!This will do the job but it's not for the wimpy. I don't recommend using a cordless drill and if your drill has a second handle to control torque, you had better plan on using it.

The bit worked, but when I hit a nail it couldn't go through it and killed the bit. I finally got the nail out and bought a second bit. Otherwise not bad

Got this as a close out at an Amazon vendor for only $1 plus about $5 shipping, and could not be happier. This is a very heavy duty excellent quality hole saw.What I liked most about this hole saw is the multiple ways I could attach it to a drive system. The hole saw has what looks like a 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the base. It also has two sets of 1/4" holes (most hole saws only have one set) in the base in a cross (+) configuration with the center 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the cross.This was important for me, because I used this hole saw in a unique way. I used the 1/4" holes to run 2 threaded bolts through a PVC coupling I created and glued together, and secured the hole saw to the pvc coupling with lock washers and nuts. Then I attached multiple 10' lengths of 3/4" PVC pipe to this coupling as a snake to clean out roots that had accumulated in some of my underground 3" drain pipes. I had to oversize the drive end of the system to 1" pvc and add a galvanized hex nut pipe fitting for extra strength and durability (before I was breaking off the 3/4" pvc connectors at the drive end), and powered the whole assembly with a 1/2" pneumatic impact driver. In the final configuration, I was able to extend the assembly to a total length of 50' using 5 sections of 3/4" pvc pipe to clean out all the tree roots along the entire length of the drain.My situation was unique, and this hole saw worked perfect for it. But I believe that this hole saw would also work excellent for any traditional hole drilling needs. You just have to make sure you can attach it to your drive system.

Partially due to a slightly underpowered drill press, but this thing was pretty dull when it arrived and definitely bound up at even slow speeds in a medium-density wood. Took about 5 minutes per hole to get through 3/4" wood.It was also challenged by 1/8" plywood, so it wasn't just the material.Probably fine for door handles on cheap doors, but look elsewhere for woodworking purposes.

The 4" hole saw makes perfect holes in a drywall ceiling for 4" round junction boxes.Wife's comment: "Impressive!"Recessed lights look so good in the family room, I guess I'll have to keep going. Kitchen next.For holes in drywall my cordless Hitachi 3/8" drill was adequate. Still need to be very careful. Even with a 4" hole saw the rotational inertia is substantial, both for starting and stopping. That situation is amplified as you move up to a 6" hole saw. For holes in plywood, solid wood, plastic, etc., a 1/2" drill is needed (unless you hate your 3/8" drill and want an excuse to buy a new one).The hole saw was of the same high quality as other Irwin tools I've used. It comes in a box with just the hole saw, no mandrel. I used both DeWalt and Milwaukee mandrels with no problem. I used this to cut several holes through metal siding and wood backing. Cut very well and I have no issues with this cutting blade. Nice to have in my tool box the next time I require it.

I needed this particular size for my no waste chicken feeder project. I couldn't find it anywhere in local stores. I was glad amazon.ca had it in stock. It came on time. I was able to finally finish my project. I didn't have any problems with the product. It's a good quality and it does what it suppose to with no problems at all. I'd recomended it to anyone.

A good quality hole saw at a very affordable price compared to the other alternatives. I have purchased and used several Irwin bits in the past and they have all held up very well as long as you use properly. I can absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a hole saw at a great price.

Defective. The hole saw is not perfectly round, and the pilot bit is not centered inside the hole saw, so there is a ton of wobble/vibration when cutting, and the edges of the resulting holes are somewhat more ragged than need be. Would not purchase this brand ever again.

Good quality. Very sharp teeth. Will need to have an auger bit to go in the middle.
