Waiting on the Word: A poem a day for Advent, Christmas and Epiphany

Malcolm Guite quickly became one of my favorite poets with Sounding the Seasons, in this book he includes the work of many other Christian poets. I can wait to read his poetry companion to Lent!

Malcom Guite does an amazing job bringing the advent season to life with this companion of poems, some originals, and reflective commentary.

I was attracted to this book because… I enjoy Malcolm Guite’s poetry and I was looking for something new and challenging to consider Advent in the troubling year of 2020.This book was about - Using his extensive knowledge of poetry, Malcom was able to present poems with vey meaningful insights to each day of Advent.Things I liked about this book - He moves you from the physical darkness and cold of December to the power of hope springing from look toward the birth of the Savior.Why you should read this book - To have a fresh look at the Advent season.This book lived up to the back cover copy - The comments on the back cover will lead you to the front porch of the door that will take your Advent season to a deeper experience.

Very grateful to have discovered this author. I write in rhyming iambic pentameter because of Alexander Pope. I write in Sonnet form because of Malcolm Guite.

I loved experiencing these poems as a daily meditation for Advent. My husband and I read these together each day for a morning devotion.

I love the in-depth comments on each of the poems. This book helps to slow you down and spend time with the wisdom and joy present in this often hurried season.

Guite is both a excellent teacher and a inspired poet and this anthology has him doing both with clarity and humility. I felt accompanied by an artist and able guide through a familiar season with new insight and perspective.

I have never submitted a review on Amazon after many dozen purchases. But this book is different, and it deserves to be singled out. I am wonderfully grateful for Guite's inspired Advent selections and informed insight on each. He not only provides a poignant moment for each day, but weaves them together over the course of weeks for a fuller, richer contemplation of the coming Christ child. Each day builds on the previous, comparing and contrasting Christian and secular poets, themes, history, and inspiration, while never losing sight of the season's beauty. I love this book and highly, highly recommend it.

Malcolm Guite is one of the premier poets of our generation. His insights are brilliant and his theological reflections are sensitive and timely. A great addition to the resources available for the seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany. I highly recommend it as a fellow poet, clergy, and theologian.

A book I really enjoyed reading over Advent and Christmas . One I will return to many times. I loved the mix of poetry and the insights into the meanings - often more than one- of the carefully chosen and crafted words and phrases used to express thoughts, beliefs and feelings. Wonderful book leading me to deeper understanding of what it means to be Waiting for God.
