I teach yoga and have known about the healing and therapeutic qualities of sound for some time. Traditionally, singing bowls were used for religious ceremonies.This bowl arrived MUCH faster than the projected ETA. Less than two weeks if I recall. Other reviewers also mentioned that and it is one reason why I ordered it. The projected ETA was about two months.It arrived intact and well-packed. Styrofoam inner-pack completely cradled the bowl. It would have taken some major crushing weight or perhaps a high drop to damage it. The styrofoam can be used to carry the bowl and protect it. I use just 1/2 of the 2 part styrofoam packing material. The bowl rests within and is stable enough with a small towel placed into the styrofoam to stabilize it and prevent it from rocking when transporting it to my studio.The wooden wand/striker is large enough and just the right size for this bowl. The weight is substantial and doesn't have a cheap feel. It was turned on a lathe and has been sanded and has what appears to be a light poly-type varnish. I couldn't detect a stain. It looks nice. The end is fitted with a hard rubber ball. The handle end has a rounded portion, allowing you to hold easily with thumb and index finger and swing toward the bowl.When used as a striker, it creates a deep, resonate gong sound. So-o-o lovely! This part alone makes it worth it.When used with the wand, the sound level increases immediately and dramatically and no special skill is required. Just maintain contact with the upper portion of the bowl as you move the wand around in a circle. That's it!Over time, your skill operating this will improve and you will no longer contact the wooden portion of the striker with the edge of the bowl. That creates an undesirable sound, so you want to avoid that. Just be mindful to keep the wand vertical.You will also learn how to increase the pressure to deepen the sound while maintaining contact as you move in a circle. Even, steady pressure provides best results. Speed of rotation may be increased as desired, as well, as this also increases the output. As you increase the rotational speed, it becomes harder and harder to maintain pressure. The bowl will want to tip, so be careful! This is part of the fun of playing your singing bowl. The bowl rests on a black rubber-like ring that separates it from the surface it is resting on so it can resonate to its potential.The cool part about this bowl is just how easy it is to play. It only requires minimal contact against the frosted, textured outer surface of the bowl. A slow, simple rotation around the outside produces the sound. Nothing to it!Another cool part about this is how long it resonates after ceasing the rotation. I timed it and the sound was audible to me for ONE FULL MINUTE!!! Very impressive indeed. This is a quality product. I don't have a means to test whether this is actually calibrated to 432Hz, but the sound is deep, rich and beautiful, especially so indoors. Outdoors, the sound dissipates and is not as impactful unless you are up close.I brought this to my yoga studio, which is located in a city park right by a lake. When I played it, I gathered quite a bit of attention. There were some family gatherings nearby and children came by to check it out. At first, they asked if I would teach them yoga. So we had a "class"! They had fun and so did I. Then I showed them the singing bowl and played it for them. They were amazed. Then I showed them how to hold the striker and "bong" the bowl, creating the gong sound. They loved that. Then I showed them how to rotate it around the top of the bowl. After demonstrating, I let each kid have a go at it and they all did marvelous. They were really happy to do that!If you buy this, you will not be disappointed. This exceeds my expectations and I am very pleased with this purchase. I would recommend this item and would buy it again. I feel it is a good value. I'm so glad that Amazon offers these.
