If you LOVE railroad history-buy this book!
This book is described as a book for juniors(teenagers) but, reallyit is a book for all. I really enjoyed this. It is all about the railroads/steam engines/trains from their' primitive start(in 1820's) to about (mid 20th century). The illustrations and photos ALONE make this book worth it!!! and strangely,I hadnever really thought of the importance of the railway system to the developmentof the HISTORY of the united states. The railways were very important but, itmeant different things to different people:to native people it destroyed theirway of life,to the rich men who owned the railway system,it meant $$$(and lots ofit),to the outlaws,it meant something to rob(yes, this book covers this subject),tomany people it meant progress;a way to get goods from here to there to help thefamily of man. This book covers a plethora of everything pertaining to the railroad. It has black andwhite illustrations and some color, many stories, even a glossary of rail-road slang(my personal favorite a,"cinder dick" which was a railroad detective!)BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE TRAINS---WOOOOO,WOOO0O.
