Perfect book for bookworms and everyone else too
For any one who loves reading and loses themself in another world every time they open a book, BUY THIS! If you are already a fan of Jenny Colgan then you will know how warm her writing style is and that each of the characters she creates becomes somebody you care about. For those who have never read one of Colgan's books then get yourself a cup of tea, a cosy blanket and prepare to whisk yourself off to another life. The plot line to this is nothing unexpected if you've read any classical romantic fiction, like Pride & Prejudice or Jane Eyre but add to it the gorgeous Scottish Highlands, Jenny Colgan's easy writing style (easy to read, I'm sure it's pretty hard to write a novel) and romantic heroine, Nina, who loves to read and encourage others to read and you have pure joy at your fingertips.I devoured this book in a day, not just because of the rather delicious sounding beer and even more tasty sounding farmer, Lennox but because I couldn't wait to find out what book would be recommended next and whether or not Nina would eventually figure out what we the reader had seen all along. This may never break literature boundaries or win a Pulizer prize but it will give you hours of enjoyment, put a smile on your face and re-invigorate your love for reading.Sorry for the long review, I'm off to re-read it and make a list of all the books I liked the sound of.

Praise for the human connection and the love of books
This book won't set you alight intellectually and it's not that thought provoking, but hey! Who cares? It's a delightful read, ideal for long summer holidays and completing it left me with a fizzy happy feeling. Jenny Colgan has the talent of being able to create characters that generate strong emotion in the reader - plus a longing for simpler times when everyone liked each other and there was more of a human connection than there is now. I was so moved by the book and the heartwarming relationships within it that I vow not to use social media so much and actually talk to people on the phone and face-to-face more. I might even write a letter to a friend who lives in the wilds of Scotland. As a child and adult who adores books and who used to get in trouble at school for falling asleep in class through staying up all night to finish books like David Copperfield, Lord of the Rings and The Time Machine I totally identify with the book-mad Nina Redmond. Thank you very much Jenny for reminding me of what it means to be human:-) .

A guilty pleasure, with a touch of James Herriot!
This is such an indulgent read, and left me with a big smile! Nina is a little bookworm, who works as librarian in Birmingham. She has a narrow, safe life which radically changes when she is made redundant. She does something completely out of character and moves up to the Scottish highlands and opens up her own unique little bookshop (I would love to visit!). This is a novel for people who adore books, and it was easy to fall into the story and identify with our heroine. With the gorgeous Kirrinfief, tranquillity, patchwork fields dotted with sheep it was a perfect world to spend some time in. The characters are warm and quirky, and there are some amusing scenes and conversations with Jenny Colgan's warmth and wit. I especially liked Lennox and his dog Parsley!A happy read with an old fashioned romantic feel, this is a real indulgence that will make you smile. Jenny Colgan is a guilty pleasure! I would recommend it for romantics who like James Herriot and can't walk past a bookshop!

A good read, but not my favourite JC book.
I loved that this book was set, mostly, in the Scottish Highlands, as I adore this area. But I am afraid that, and the book bus, are the only things I really liked about it. I just found it all a bit predictable to be honest. I don't want to give the plot away as that wouldn't be fair to future readers. But I felt the storyline in the last third or so of the book was rushed. It was clear that the characters were going to end up in this situation, but it really was at a different pace from the rest of the story. I didn't warm to the characters, apart from Parsley the dog, and thought Surinder was a down right awful character, who seemed to be permanently nasty to Nina. I love some of Jenny's previous books, especially The Little Beach Street Bakery ones, and I know I will still buy her books in future as reading them is a nice way to pass a few hours. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind this book, but it is definitely not one of my favourite Jenny Colgan books.
