Wrong Cover
I bought this for my grandma who loves literature and china, the cover I received has three women on it. Not as advertised and disappointing.

LIKE A MIX OF JANE AUSTEN AND P.G. WODEHOUSE!
I had previously read Gaskell's North and South, and that spurred me on to read more of her works. Cranford is simply wonderful! It is full of quaint sayings, clever turns of phrase, exquisite analogies and similes, as well as just plain funny and subtle expressions. In the English village of Cranford there are numerous older women: widows and spinsters, but very few men, none of who are highly regarded. The women have long established their own rules of etiquette and behavior, their own standards of dress and style, and none of these with regard to the opinions or preferences of men. I'm an old man myself, and still I don't think I have had so much fun reading a book since my Wodehouse days. Mrs. Gaskell's writings are simply wonderful! And they make pretty good movies, too!

Elizabeth Gaskell is a major but often overlooked Victorian writer
Cranford is a short novel that many have seen in film form, which is quite charming, but her short stories are pretty amazing and radically different from the story that made her famous, check them out sometime, you'll be impressed

Great writer to discover (if not already aware of).
Elizabeth Gaskell is a very fine writer of the ordinary occurrences in life. She might be a bit wordier than contemporary writers but her writing makes her people live as few writers can. I won't bother with many more words. Read hers. Read this book.

Great stories!
Came across Elizabeth Gaskell in my Netflix recommendations. These stories are such great reads. If you love Pride and Prejudice, these stories will be for you as well.

Wow!
I'm constantly amazed at how quickly my items are sent when I order from Amazon. I tell everyone I know that orders items online that they need to order from Amazon whenever they can.

Good book for a Gaskell fan
other than the print is really small, the book is great. I am an Elizabeth Gaskell fan so it didn't take long to read it!

Good read
I recently have discovered Elizabeth Gaskell, after reading North and South I wanted to get a better idea of her writing so I thought this would be a great book. Some of the stories were wonderful. My favorite being one of her most well known Crandford followed by Mr. Harrison's Confessions. These two stories were so well-written and were surprisingly quite funny. Some of the stories I found quite dull and I could just about finish them. Lois the witch was one of them. I found myself just wanting to skip to the next story, I had to force myself to finish it.The majority of the stories were interesting and well written so this book is a good buy. There is quite a variety in the types of stories included. Although since they are only short stories a lot of the ending are abrupt and disappointing.North and south is so far my top read from Elizabeth Gaskell followed by Wives and Daughters.

Good classic of village life.
Cranford was my required text for my English 0-level exam. I didn't remember much about it, so this brought back the delightful village story.
