Yes it's a good winter coat. Warm, but not super insulated. I would say it depends on where you are. Bought this for my husband and we live in CA so it doesn't get super cold here so it worked perfectly.

If you have broad shoulders I would go with a medium. I bought my husband his regular size and it fit pretty well everywhere except the shoulders.
