Ok except they have Amazon basics printed on them
They seem like they will do the job of holding books up but aesthetically I don’t think they are great only because they have ‘Amazon basics’ printed on the side.

Poor quality, even for the price
Firstly, this is a set of two pairs of bookends, so you will receive 4 identical items in total. With that in mind the price becomes somewhat more palatable, but the quality still isn't really good enough. The two sets were packed into a single box, which caused them to scratch each other in transit.Aside from those scratches, the rest of the painted finish is really poor with every type of defect imaginable (ie trapped dust and other particle contamination, inclusions, flat spots, orange peel etc). The quality of the pressed bracket is OK, but still suffers from a poor finish. On the bottom of each part are three stuck on feet. These are all over the place, and one had fallen off. Not great. The stands work by using the weight of the books which sit on the extended fold of the bracket, and this works well. It does do the job it was intended for, it just looks pretty poor doing it. I expect this wouldn't be as much of a problem if they were cheaper. If you really don't care about looks, you could add a star or maybe even 2, but even ignoring the looks and the price, it's hard to ignore the poor quality of this product.

Another Basics Success
Bookends come in all shapes and sizes, from the stylised and fancy through to the basic ones. It is at the latter end that AmazonBasics have pitched these, making them ideal for office (or similar kinds of areas). In the box you get two sets, making 4 bookends in total. They are made from a relatively thin pressed metal that is painted black (with the usual AmazonBasics screen printed logo of course) with think foam pads on the bottom. These pads are the weakest area as they are too thin to be very effective and not well stuck on. There is a small hole in one of the base sections, which could be used for screwing the bookend into a shelf if required. You can also place books on either side of the uprights, although the side that can be screwed down is a lot more plain-looking.Height wise they are fairly tall and strong enough to hold a lot of books up. As can be seen in the images I have added, they are tall enough and strong enough for some fairly heavy books.Overall I am impressed with these bookends. They are not designed for a lounge or similar area, but for an office, and there therefore very functional in design.

Very effective
I'm pretty happy with these bookends, you get four in the pack which is handy. I've been using two for the office and two for our children's bookcase. In the office they do a decent job of holding books up, but it's the children's bookcase where I am most impressed because these do a great job of continuing to hold books up even when several books are taken out. They have a long thin metal panel on the bottom that reaches across several books so is better than most bookends with shorter ones. These remind me of library standard bookends. They are well designed and very lightweight, they use the weight of the books sitting on the metal panel to hold the books up which is much more effective than just having a heavy bookend that continuously slides and falls over. The main downside of these is the large amazon basics logo on the front. Fine for the office but not so good if you want to use them in other rooms. Otherwise the black design looks smart and sleek.

Simple, smart and useful bookends.
This set of book ends arrived securely packaged inside a box, which was inside the usual amazon branded box. A box in a box. The book ends are in perfect condition. The basics range by Amazon is anything but basic, and these are a good example. They look well made, and are well finished with smooth edges. The styling is simple and looks smart, and will work with most decor. In my opinion they are most suitable for holding lighter books (ie not a big pile of hardbacks or heavy study books). They are working perfectly with the 8 books of assorted sizes currently on a shelf here.I like them. I wouldn't choose them for the living room, but in a home office setting they are really good (I imagine they would be ideal for a teenager's homework area).Currently priced at £16.41.I hope you find this review helpful, thanks for reading.

simple and practical
The most important facts about bookends is they should be large and sturdy enough to support the books and keep them standing up. These AmazonBasics bookends are made with thin and study metals, the weight is not too heavy and the height and the base part is long enough to let two to three books standing on.These bookends are useful to keep my kids' books more organized as they prevent the books on the shelf from falling down. Price wise they are not the cheapest, in fact I think £17.14 for 2 sets (4 pieces) is slightly expensive.

Functional and solid bookends
These bookends are plain and sturdy so would fit on any office or home bookshelf. They are made from metal coated in black paint. They are solid and have a good weight to them and, as you can see (see picture), easily hold up hardback books on a shelf. They do the job they are intended for and so are fit for purpose. The price seems reasonable as you get two sets – more than enough for an average-sized bookshelf, in my opinion.I would be happy to recommend this to anyone looking for functional and solid bookends.
