Just in case of any confusion, lets be clear that Fermipan is an active yeast for baking, NOT any sort of food supplement. If you start swallowing this by the spoonful you can expect a belly ache at the very least! Dried Bakers yeast (not Brewers yeast!) is, apparently, normally taken to be gluten free. According to the package Fermipan contains only a named variety of yeast and E 491 which is a widely used emulsifier. I have seen other brands of dried yeast which contain this and which are sold as gluten free. I imagine that the lack of specific claims on the Fermipan package reflects the fact that the brand is targeted at trade purchasers. I hope that's helpful!

Can you use this yeast for baking cake also?

If it's a cake that normally is made with yeast, like Panettone, Cornish saffron buns, Stollen or Babka then definitely. For other cakes, then yes, but remember not to use baking soda, and the cake may take an hour or so to 'prove' (rise) before going in the oven. Also, don't cook at more than 200C (Fan 190). I get very good results at fan 180C.

Can it be used the way it is? Also, can it be used for baking?

We use it all the time for making bread, it is like any other instant yeast.

It isn't just yeast there is a additive in this which you cannot see on the packaging. I wanted pure yeast due to my health and am not happy I was unable to see it before buying it.
