Seagate Expansion SSD, 1TB, Portable External SSD, for PC and Mac, 3 year Rescue Services (STJD1000400)

My Apple computer is only 2 years old, but for some reason had been running slowly. I most certainly can’t afford to replace it, so I was looking for a way to speed things up. Reviews suggested that I could achieve this by using an external drive as a startup disk. I wanted a solid-state drive for reasons of space, noise and reliability and settled on the Seagate Barracuda 1TB. This is a lovely piece of kit. I can’t comment on its sturdiness, as I am using it exclusively in a home office setting, but it seems strong enough. It is very small and thin...I have it velcroed to the back of my iMac, and you’d never know it was there. My computer has suddenly become the fast, reliable machine it should be. I have installed Mac OS Catalina on it, and have been doing some pretty powerful video and audio editing at speeds that keep me more than happy. To date, its reliability has been 100%, hence the 5-star rating.

I have a 2020 MacBook and the storage situation is quite limited. I have a few games that would not do well if I stored them on my internal. Upgrading the storage is pretty expensive so I bought this SSD for this main reason.I absolutely love it! It’s pretty thin, so it’s easy to store and for on the go. I used to run my games from an HDD then I transferred it to my Barracuda drive. It runs so smoothly, so quickly! My games haven’t crashed once. I use it quite a lot and I haven’t had problems with it at all. It comes with a thunderbolt and usb connector so you can connect it to almost any computer without the hassle of an adaptor.Personally really love the sleek design.

I bought this to act as an external SSD boot drive for a 2017 iMac (which have a grindingly slow hard drive which cannot be easily replaced.) I was sceptical as to firstly the ease of set up and secondly the benefit. I have to say that it's the best £120 I have spent on a computer add on - the Mac now runs smoothly and there is no discernible lag most of the time. For info, I reformatted the drive according to instructions I found on the net, then cloned the hard drive, and changed the start up drive setting in system preferences. I also was pleased to receive both a USB-C cable and a USB-A cable, which gives me options as to which port to use.

Very small lightweight device that would easily fit in a shirt pocket let alone a jacket. Speed seems fair though that is obviously also dependent on what you are writing from or to. As far as longevity goes compared to an HDD we will just have to wait and see.Addendum: I did order this as a 2TB but only received a 1TB - I rang customer service who offered me a refund or a 35% discount as it had been incorrectly advertised. The 35% discount made it as cheap as a HDD so no brainer and thank you to Amazon customer service for dealing with it so quickly.

I have used this as a boot disk for my late 2012 iMac. WOW what a difference. My Mac had died and would not boot up at all. The internal drive was showing a SMART error (which I had to look up). Formatted the SSD, connected it to the Mac, started up in recovery mode and downloaded Catalina onto the SSD. Set it up to boot from the SSD and what a difference. I should have done this years ago. Saved me from buying a new Mac for a while. SSD works a treat and would buy again.

This a great size ssd very compact. Is fast enough for what I’ve used it for working with GoPro at 4K in iMovie. Just have to use a power usb to use on my iPad Pro 12.9 series 1.

This is the fastest memory I have ever used. It is the backup drive for my fast SSD new laptop. The backup software works a treat, although it strangely won't back up certain system folders, like appdata in Windows10.Not to worry though, because, whenever it is lugged into the laptop, it swiftly makes sure all changed files are updated. I have it on a one-way only sync, so if I delete a file on the laptop, and it had already been backed up, the old backed up file is still on the backup drive.It is small, flat, and has a glowing green LED band across it to show that it is on. It gently pulses as it's working.

I downloaded macOs High Sierra onto this drive and connected it to my late 2009 iMac via the included USB C to A cable, redirecting startup disk to the SSD from the old Mac HDD (following widely available instructions). Absolute game changing difference to speed and not a beachball of doom in sight. Boot up now about 40s and instant surfing, almost no grumble from the ancient DJ inside. Just upgraded the RAM today to 16GB to help it along and it's a different animal with the combo. The RAM switch on these older machines is so easy and you don't need to open the machine for this or to hardwire a new disk to achieve a major performance boost. I did a lot of research and some of the comments online are just wrong. This works.

The seller was very prompt and friendly. It's nice to see a good company surviving and working hard during this pandemic. The product is exactly what my grandson needed.

Este SSD me encanta por portabilidad, dureza y fiabilidad al traspasar datos y leerlos. Lo uso con mac osx y lo reconoce al instante. La velocidad de escritura y lectura es perfecta y la pena es que no lo haya vuelto a encontrar en la tienda; quizá lo han dado de baja o ya no se construye. Una pena.
