We purchased this scale when our daughter went on the ketogenic diet. This is a very restrictive diet designed to reduce or eliminate epileptic seizures. It requires extremely accurate measurements (by cooking standards). Most ingredients have to be measured to the tenth of an ounce (think one or two drops of ketchup). This scale has done quite well for us so far. There's no bowl, as there would be with a true kitchen scale, but the Tare function means you can use any bowl of your own. Unlike the other reviewer, our scale came well calibrated (matched the one we got from the hospital to the tenth of an ounce). The size is perfect for a kitchen. Doesn't take up too much room on the counter, but it's large enough to handle the base of most any bowl you'd want to put on it. It also seems to be much better built than most, including the loaner from the hospital. The only thing I could suggest would be using a different style of buttons on the front so it would be easier to clean. Of course, it's not designed as a kitchen scale, so it's hard to fault them for that.

This scale is defective. It does not work past 500g, shows EEEEEE on the display screeen, cannot be tared accurately, and is effectively useless.

Overall, I am happy with the scale. I would have given a 5 star review, except for the fact that the scale was not calibrated correctly when I received it. The description said the scale comes calibrated. I had to spend another $10 for a 500 gram weight to calibrate the scale. I knew I would have to buy the 500 gram weight one day, but I didn't expect to need one right off the bat. I would purchase another American Weigh scale again. Especially since I have the 500 gram weight for calibration now!

Weighings are accurate and reproducible, the controls are simple and easy to use, and the unit seems solidly built. The stainless tray comes off easily if you pick up the unit by its' edges but this would make it easier to clean if ever needed. Calibration is quick and easy. The only flaw my unit had was a battery cover that wouldn't stay in place - I fixed this easily by trimming a little plastic off the inside of the cover. Overall this is a great unit for a great price!

It does just what I want it to do with lots of features and variables. Frankly I was surprised at the price; just compare it to some of the stuff we pay a similar amount for day to day.

Scale jumps all over the place. Useless

Not the most accurate, which was disappointing. Bought it for a pinewood derby car. I liked that it did oz's, since that is how our Pack judges it. However, I had bought a few standard weights for a prior scale (100g and 200g) and although zeroed out, it showed both as different weights (showed both as weighing just a bit more).

I work in scrap silver and this is just what I needed.Came boxed well and with clear instructions for recalibrating.Large work surface fits lots of silver.Switch between weights and it has an auto shutoff if you forget to turn it off.

the display allows you to see even when a large plate is on top. very accurate. only downside is it uses batteries

What's more to say: it is accurate and seems that it will work well for a good time to come.

Very light and easy to use. Batteries is s nice feature, just pull out of cupboard for recipes.
