Spectacular Buildings
"Chateaux of the Loire Valley" is quite interesting and has some nice photos. It gives a lot of information on the most prominent chateaux of the region and their description along with the interesting bits of history. The book also contains the map, chronology of the most important facts of French history and the genealogy of the French kings. The only serious disadvantage of the book is that the chateaux are listed according to alphabet (rather formally) and not in chronological or geographical order, which would be more convenient.

Beautiful book. Sorry
Beautiful book. Sorry, no time to write more. But we will certainly find time in the future to enjoy the pictures and information in the book. Hoping to get to France to see the Loire in person someday!

CHATEAUX GALORE!
This is an enjoyable book with lots of photos of chateaux throughout the Loire Valley of France. This is also a great book for a history buff, as the history of each chateau is featured in detail. The book features some well known chateaux as well as some that are not so well known. This is the next best thing to visiting these outstanding chateaux in person. It's also a guide for someone who is planning a trip to the Loire Valley and can't decide which chateau to visit.

An incredible introduction to the Loire
Purchased this book to get some idea what we might get to see when we're in the Loire Valley next summer. The lovely photographs and narrative of so many of these magnificent structures led us to change our plans and stay a little longer. The area guidebooks give you more information with lots of details...but this wonderful book really is the icing on the cake for travel planning and will be our lovely souvenir of our visit when we return.

Great book!
This book was exactly what I was looking for. It has high quality pictures and interesting details about the history of each castle. Also, it gives a breakdown of the families that were in power in France which is also very interesting. I'm so glad I got this book!

Spectacular photography! Superior quality book!
We own this beautiful book. It is filled with high quality photographs, portraying the true beauty of the Lorie Valley. We are purchasing one more copy as a gift for a dear friend who traveled with us to Chenonceaux, and Chambord. Our personal photo's did not do justice to the true beauty of these castles. This book will be on our coffee table, to remind us of the breathtaking experience we had, while being in the presence of such lovely architecture. I highly recommend this book!!We have visited France in 1997, 1998, and 1999.

Excellent Coverage of the Region with a Wealth of Quality Photos
Anyone who likes castles will like this book, more so if you're interested in this castle-rich region of France !First there is very useful map (with 'splodges' marking the location of each featured castle) and some historical info, including several relevant family trees, then an introduction chapter of several pages with accompanying photos.I've attached a photo of the contents list to this review. The subsequent coverage of the 'castles' (some are more like stately homes really) in the Loire region is extensive, with a wealth of quality photos for each one featured - each has it's own section. There is a certain amount of textual info in those dedicated chapters, with the 'description' relying more on the photographic presentation of the exterior and interior. My only gripe is that no aerial photos of any castle appear, something which often shows them at their best and definitely gives a often much-needed impression of the castle 'site' and setting....see below for a recommended alternative.Overall, a very good book for extensive/quality photos of the extensive range of featured castles. If you want a cheaper alternative, and one which is more compatible for taking with you on your Loire travels perhaps (albeit that it has a bit less castle 'coverage' and a MUCH lower page-count plus it's a paperback), BUT which provides more textual info on the featured castle AND some stunning aerial photos of them then this is worth considering (BUT make sure you get the English-language edition !) : Loire valley castles --- Loire valley castles

A beautiful book
As a resident of France I bought this book to review the Chateaux I wanted to visit. It is also very informative of each of their Histories, sumptuously decorated with colour photography it is also a great coffee table book.

Beautiful and informative
This book is more or less perfect!!Beautiful Pictures. Thorough descriptions of the architectural features and the histories of the Castles. Each section varies in length depending on how interesting each castle is, but none are too long. I want to go visit all of them :-)
