Bye bye Dirty Sock Syndrome
Day 1 after bulb installSo about 5 months ago I had my AC guy install a GreenUV G500 uv lamp, and a new aluminum/aluminum A coil to replace my old aluminum/copper one, due to corrosion and preventative maintenance. The newer, all aluminum coils are longer lasting due to their non corrosive material, but one thing I noticed sometime after it was installed was a moldy, dirty smell as soon as the AC turned on. I didn't think much about it except that I figured that there was mold in the ducts. I thought that I would have to either get the duct work professionally cleaned, or eventually replaced. Months passed, and as the climate here in South Florida got more hot and humid, the odor got worse. I then started purchasing coil cleaners which really didn't do much except foam up an already clean, practically brand new coil, but no luck. Before giving up, I stumbled upon a video on YouTube about something called "dirty sock syndrome", which I read happens mostly on the newer all aluminum coils of today, as soon as the AC unit turns on. The video said that a remedy to fix this is to spray Pine Sol on the coils, but in order for it to be effective, the Pine Sol must have 8.7% real pine oil to work. Apparently after the Clorox company bought out Pine Sol, they they removed the 8.7% and used their own chemicals. Either way I decided to go ahead and try it out, and it worked perfectly, for 2 days and then the bad smell eventually came back. I gave up at this point and just decided to live with it. Last week I noticed that my uv light bulb burned out, so I purchased this one and it finally got here about 2 hours ago. Once I installed the new bulb, I turned back on my hvac breaker and the unit kicked in. I could not believe what happened seconds after the AC turned on. The odor was completely gone and replaced with a light ozone scent, which I love. I could not believe that a bulb can make such a difference because the one that came with my uv light didn't do this. I'm very very happy with this bulb, as that bad odor was affecting my sleep. I've never written a review like this in my life, but I felt that I needed to. I hope this helps anyone else going through this problem. I'll keep you guys posted with any updates.

Similar Product!
I ordered this bulb and it worked. Although the replacement has two white cords going down the sides it is still similar. I had to replace the extension cord because it was faulty and kept the bulb from lighting up. It is a good product and easy to install. I suggest watching a YouTube video on how to install it. if you don't have one put in. I was cheated because the guy who put it in charged me over $1000. Knowing what I know now I could have easily installed the lighting system myself. Thank you.

why pay more.
Why pay a service contractor $125-$150 to buy and install a uv lamp for your a/c system? For about $40-$45 buy the lamp and install yourself in 15 minutes or less.

Generates Ozone!
This lamp is described as UV-C 254nm which is not supposed to produce ozone. installation was easy, however as soon as the lamp and A/C unit was energized a strong ozone odor filled the entire house. Started to feel the effects of ozone exposure a few hours later with a mild headache and removed the lamp from my system.

Is the Ozone smell from the UV light bad for you?
Ok, I installed the bulb which is just unplug old one and plug in the new one. The UV light came on and the vents started to smell like ozone treated air. I have an ozone machine and it has the same odor. I was very concerned about the smell but I decided to let the new UV light do it's thing to see if the smell would subside after a time. The unit ran for 24 hours and the ozone smell was still present in the house and the previous moldy smell was reduced or mostly gone. I however was still very concerned about the 'ozone smell' so I have decided to unplug the UV lamp in case the ozone smell was detrimental to our health. My old UV light that was there before had neve had that smell so I didn't want to take the chance. Anybody out there who has a comment on the ozone smell, please let me know what you think.

Seems like quality product
Who knows if any bulb actually creates enough UV to do the job. This appears to be a quality product. Solid base and thick glass. Came very well packaged. Easy to remove and unpack; it comes in a thick cardboard tube. This model has open edges along the holes that the mounting screws go into. Because of this, you don't have to be concerned if the holes are in the exact spot that you need for your model. This is my second year with this product. First year held up very well and didn't burn out. I'm just following guidelines that the bulbs need to be replaced every year; apparently the UV production diminishes over time. Sure beats the $135 the HVAC people in my area want for just the bulb. Doesn't include installation. There is nothing to installing. Just make sure you turn off power before opening air handler; the light from the bulb can burn the eyes.
