Best bang for the buck
This Adjustable Speed Bag Platform is well worth the money. I'm pretty frugal and I could have built a speed bag platform for about $100 but it would NOT have been adjustable and it would NOT have been quiet. I previously bought and returned a cheap platform kit that was very noisy and was not adjustable. Here's the thing about being adjustable: If your platform is NOT adjustable, you have to get the height exactly right upon installation because if it's wrong and uncomfortable, you're going to have to removed the whole platform and put bolts in again. Also, if the platform isn't adjustable and more than one person is going to use the speed bag, the only way you're going to be able to adjust for height differences is to place something on the floor of the EXACT difference. It's just not a workable thing to have a fixed height speed bag platform. Making your own ADJUSTABLE speed bag platform just isn't going to be cost-effective even if you make minimum wage - I couldn't find any easy do-it-yourself ideas for an adjustable platform. As for the quiet, you will appreciate how quiet the XMark Adjustable Platform is. You get enough of the satisfying whapity-wap, whapity-wap sound for feedback while you use it, but because of the heavy steel mounting brackets, the heavy adjusting bolts, and the heavy steel frame, this platform doesn't vibrate at all when you use your speed bag. The only way that this platform with a speed bag will produce noise is if the wall you attach it to flexes. Mine is attached to 2x4s and they flex very little. My neighbors don't hear me hitting the bag. I have a pool table, though, and they hear the click of the balls. And they hear me hitting my wooden dummy and the heavy bag. The heavy bag hangs from 2x4s and the wooden dummy has "arms" and a "leg" that move and make noise when I hit it. But this platform is surprisingly heavy, solid and quiet. The platform comes with everything you need but a bag. It even has hand tools for assembly and installation. All the nuts, bolts, and tools are vacuum sealed to a piece of cardboard and clearly labeled to correspond to the instruction sheet. I put my platform together in order and as shown and it was up very quickly. I did use a level that does not come with the kit. Any old bubble level will work. I would have got this whole thing together and up in 15 or 20 minutes if I had help. I did not, and I put it up alone. It is heavy, so, because I was alone, I assembled it and put a rope over the rafters and around the platform to hold it close to the wall while I leveled it and placed the bolts. I put it into place ONCE and because it is adjustable vertically, I used the adjustments to put the bag at the correct height for me. I have a buddy who is much shorter than I am and I can adjust for him. This is so nicely made I know it's going to last the rest of my life. There is NO REASON to make one yourself, buy a cheaper or more expensive platform. This is the right buy. Can't be better. This would work in a commercial gym, in my opinion.

Get this one! But upgrade the swivel to the Meister SpeedKills Thunderbolt Triple-Bearing Swivel!
Very nice, well built and sturdy! This is the one to get! I am very, very happy with it so far! The included swivel on the other hand, isn’t great. I upgraded to the Meister SpeedKills Thunderbolt Triple-Bearing Speed Bag Swivel (Fits in the factory screw mounting holes), what a night and day difference!

Substantial, heavy enough duty for home use
Ok this is a heavy duty piece. Here my comments: Not necessarily in order of importance. 1) I first put oak strip backings onto the drywall, screwing them into the studs, then I mounted the frame of the unit onto the backings, trying to go through the backings into the studs, for extra protection, not sure if I succeeded on this last point totally, but the as mounted, it is sturdy. 2) the thickness of the "wheel" where the bag hits is sufficient to create the desired thud feeling and sound. 3) the include swivel works just fine, it is good because it doesn't have to much floppy "play" to it, it works fine. I did put some super glue on the big "dial" threads of the swivel because it was coming loose. Superglue worked fine, it is holding steady. 4) as far as the height adjustment is concerned, It nice to have it but it is difficult to adjust the height, it could be my failure in the installation that created too much tension, because it may not be 100 % vertically true, I don't know. It is good in a way that if I loosen the bolts to adjust the height, it doesn't just fall down, I have to pull it down, could be by design for safety. My son is a little shorter than me (for now) so he lowers it a bit. But I myself leave it at the highest, I am 6 feet and the ceiling is 8 feet, and I have read that the bottom of the bag should be about nose level. You do the math. Overall I am very pleased with this piece, it is substantial, it is not a cheaply made item and it works fine for my 5 to 10 minutes a day on it! BTW, I bought some 12 inch by 12 inch mirrors at local store and I glued them on the wall behind bag for better visual experience during workout

Exactly what I wanted
Platform is great, it's build solid with no vibration. Mine is mounted on a concrete wall which makes it even more solid. You'll need a hammer drill and some concrete lag bolts. You can rent a hammer drill from Home Depot ( at the time $40) for 24 hours and get the lags while you're there. Assembly is easy, I think I spent more time marking and drilling the holes than I did assembling the unit. You're welcome to it, but I wouldn't mount onto something made of wood, you're just going to create vibration and that's the enemy of a well functioning platform. I saw another review of a guy mounting it to a tree and placing the blame on the platform, it's not the platform, that's user error. I imagine for the slide adjustments, the brackets need to be perfectly square to function correctly and you're not going to get that with planks on an irregular tree. I'm going on 4 years with mine with no quality issues and no vibration. The price is very reasonable and I would highly recommend.

Stout and sturdy Speed Bag Mount
This is a solid sturdy Speed Bag Mount constructed of 3/16" steel, good quality swivel and comes with all the hardware needed for a basic mount to studs. In my case the studs didn't line up as needed, so cross members were needed, for which of course I needed to acquire a few extra lag screws, washers, etc. for two horizontal 2x4s (painted) to mount it on. It doesn't rattle or shake, great quality. It doesn't include a bag. The bag attached is Meister SpeedKills Leather Speed Bag, Medium 9.5" x 6"

It works but it can be improved a lot but the cost may go much higher.
The wood platform is quite good. The wood is tough and sturdy. The metal frame may not be enough, especially the smaller rectangular metal platform onto which the wood platform bolts in. The angle brackets could be made thicker to eliminate more vibrations. I my case the wall vibrates. so there is not much I can do about it. The bolts that attach the wood platform are nice and sturdy, even the hex wrench that tightens the bolts. It would be nice to come with a ball swivel. the swivel that Comes with this platform is not ball type so I changed that form the go. I had those swivels with two axels for 4 directions in the past - not a fan. If they increase the size of the metal rectangle planform and thickness and put more meat on the wall brackets this can become better. maybe make the wood twice as thick and use a butcherblock wood or heavy dense wood that absorbs all vibrations this can be a few steps in the right direction. I had the old Everlasts that came with a ball swivel that worked well too but I still needed to put weights on top of it, like sand bags. but as far as this one goes is somewhat the best option for the price. You may find others that can be better but can be much more expensive.

Super sturdy unit with great rebound speed
I actually give the product 5 stars. It’s awesome!!! However I give the instructions 2 or three stars. I have put together many ikea products so I know how to follow picture directions. I planned to put this on a masonry wall but there were no masonry screws or specific directions for masonry. I was impressed by the shrink wrapped nuts and bolts complete with tools to put together (very nice) for a stud wall assembly. I did end up putting the unit on a stud wall but I can tell you that you need to people to get this thing up. I also recommend the manufacturer put a grid on the cardboard for the two brackets that go into the wall. Also there was no recommendation to pre drill the holes for the large screws tha go into the wood. I ended up freelancing the assembly and happy to say it’s working marvelously! Very very happy, but a novice could easily massacre the assembly I would also note that moving the unit up or down to adjust for height could be dangerous as well given the platform weight

Professional Grade Quality
I love this speed bag platform. Completely stable - doesn't vibrate at all. The thick hardwood disk provides for amazing bounce and pop. I had a big brand name speed bag on a frame which was worthless due to cheap construction - so I threw it away. Not this one! I love working out on this XMark. Even my son is using it now. Luckily for me, the frame installed directly into the studs, so I didn't have to put plywood on the wall first. I did NOT follow the instruction exactly. I put the frame on the wall first, drilling pilot holes. I used only the delivered hardware and my ratchet wrench (for the wood screws) - 11/16th socket. The instructions say to assemble the entire units then place on the wall. That would have been extremely difficult since this product is very heavy, which is why I installed the frame rails first, then attach the unit. You'll probably need help lifting it and placing it on the rails. I bought the medium size Meister bag from Amazon, which is a perfect match due to it also being such high quality. It really makes my workouts even more fun. I use a boxing timer app on my phone - do 3 min jump rope, 3 min speed bag, 3 min heavy bag for 6 cycles -- Awesome workout! Furthermore, it is visually very appealing. Even my wife thinks it looks very cool due to the clearly high quality hardwood.
