Hamilton: Portraits of the Revolution (Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating the Dc Universe)

The book as a whole is absolutely stunning. The photos are extremely well captured with each one allowing the given actor/actress to shine and portray their role. While limited with words it is evident that a lot of time and care was put into the creation of this book. I would recommend this book to any fan of the musical.

Beautiful portraits but I’d have liked to see more writing, especially considering the diversity of the ensembles from the various locations.

We are living in a time of great change, and although the Imagination within this show is not reality, it is so fun looking at history through this scope. Especially because all the photos were taken through a Petzval lens which was created not long after the people portrayed in the show were alive. It dropped me right into the time period of the real Alexander Hamilton, but turned on it’s ear with a modern refreshing sense of diversity. As an actor, i loved all the inside knowledge of how some of the cast members created the characters they had to play. As for the photographer, the fact that he was able to capture movement and genuine smiles with a camera that takes FOREVER to capture an image is monumental. For anyone studying photography, this is a great book to study the use of a very old camera. Josh Lehrer went miles beyond what i thought was capable of a camera like this. The book is Brilliant and a super fun read. Buy one! You won’t be disappointed!

The release of these photos was perfectly timed, given the times we are living through. It was a real boost to my mood. :) What I particularly love about this book is that it includes photos of cast members from all the various productions, so we get to see folks from the Chicago show and the Philip Tour, etc... not just the wonderful actors from the original Broadway cast. Having seen, and loved, several different productions, that was a pleasant surprise for me.

Looking at the portraits in this book took my breath away. Each performer's humanity (and that of the character they play) is profoundly present. I saw the show on stage, then watched the filmed version, and yet this book/these photographs offers yet another layer of insight into the genius of HAMILTON. Reading this book made me feel as if I were on stage with the performers. I'm so grateful this book was created.
