Unfortunately the memory of Danny Blue was fresh in my mind after watching all eight of the brilliant series of Hustle, so it took a while to adjust to him in a more serious role. But I soon got used to it, and the other characters began to blend in with a very modern Amsterdam. If you remember what the original Van Der Valk was like, the city has changed almost beyond recognition. I did revisit the Barry Foster series recently, and I have to be honest and say that it was very dated, apart from the later episodes. The new series had three very good stories, interesting plots, and the usual bodies, car chases and intrigue. The final episode tied up a few loose ends, and partly for that reason it was the best. I cannot see any mention of there being another series, which I find very disappointing. If you were a fan of the the old series, you must give this one a try, and although it is different, it is very good. I could have mentioned the fact that I prefer a foreign series to have foreign actors speaking in English, because it adds more to the authenticity of the environment, although I do not remember that we had anything other than British actors in the original. Perhaps one day we might have a subtitled version - it seems to have paid off in the very successful Nordic Noir offerings.

Great to see my favourite detective back on the streets of Amsterdam. Having been a massive fan of the original it was hard at first to think this is the same person as that portrayed by Barry Foster. After a while I decided I could get over this by thinking this was the original Van dear Valks grandson following in his footsteps and then I really loved it. Looking forward to the second series.

DVD ist 'ganz nett', für mich jedoch zu viel Action. Ich liebe ruhigere, ausgeklügelte Krimis. Daher nicht mein Fall. Erschwerend kommt hinzu: Der Ton ist NUR ENGLISCH. Ich hatte eine deutsche Tonspur erwartet.
