Epic tale within a small book
This book tells the story of Antonia as remembered by her friend Jim. Jim was in love with her, and remains in love with her. Their stories sweep across the immigrant experience, rural life, childhood and adulthood.

A three dimensional story created in a seemingly one dimensional landscape.
My Antonia is a classic novel from 1918, about the American West (Nebraska) in the late 1800's. I was telling my book group that even though this is a novel, it reminded me of what I said about Isabella Bird's autobiography, A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains, which was that while the rest of the world was writing in black and white, she was writing in technicolor.I felt the same way about Willa Cather and My Antonia. Nebraska may be flat, but Cather turns a seemingly one dimensional landscape into a very three dimensional story, and she creates a fabulous group of three dimensional characters to go with this amazing landscape. A very big thumbs up from this reader.

Great writing
You get a fantastic picture of the original settlers of Nebraska farm country after the civil war. The characters are typical of the settlers of that period and their emotional interactions with each other during the struggle to survive and thrive, Willa Cather is in the pantheon of great American writers.

Made my friend happy
Bought as a gift for a friend in Nebraska. She's loving it and is sending it back to me to read when she's done. We will both buy this author again

Impossible To Read
The book I received had print so small I would need a magnifying glass to read it. Also, print was a very light blue. Very disappointing and not read.

Don't judge a book by its cover or blurb!
I did not have great hopes for this book, chosen for my book group and by the cover and blurb my hopes did not improve. How wrong I was! A beautifully crafted story, not at all the catalogue of predictable happenings I had imagined.Evocative description and characters to fall in love with; not just Jim and Antonia but whole generations. A critique of human nature intermingled with hopes and dreams, fulfilments and disappointments, and friendships precious and cherished which the years do not decay.A beautiful book and it will captivate.
