Outstanding IT Band Syndrome Solution
After many marathon and half-marathon races, the repeated pavement-pounding and cross-training stresses began to take their toll on me at the 21st mile mark of a marathon event in 2013. Experiencing radial discomfort outside of my left knee, I was soon unable to run without experiencing excruciating pain. I finished the race thinking I had injured my knee when, in fact, I had strained my Iliotibial (or IT) band. For those unfamiliar, the IT band is a wide tendon or "fascia" responsible for raising the leg up and down. It extends from outside of the pelvis and down the leg to a point behind the knee. When it gets strained, it tightens up significantly, compressing nerves on the side of the leg - leading to pain outside of the knee.To continue my training, I needed a solution and found it in this adjustable strap. It relieved the pressure on the band, allowing it to heal while I was able to continue running (albeit at a more moderate pace). In about three months - while continuing to run - I was able to increase my distance to where it had been. As a result, I was able to run three marathons in 2014 and one half-marathon due to the relief the band gave me. If you have ever experienced this injury - or want to use it to prevent one - I would highly recommend this product. The only drawback is that, for someone who runs 20-30 miles per week, it is effective for only about 3 months. Yet, despite this, it is nonetheless a near-perfect IT injury antidote or prevention for the long-distance runner.

This product works!
I have been having some issues with pain and weakness on the outside of my knee for the past few weeks. Running made it worse and it would take a few days to a week to resolve. I did some research online and decided to try this product in case it was my IT band giving me trouble. I strapped it on for a one-mile run and felt fine. I wanted to go further, but didn't want to push it. There was no knee pain or weakness afterwards. Two days later, I put on the IT band strap and ran for 3.5 miles, which is my usual distance. I had a twinge of pain near the end of that run, but it resolved with some work on weight machines and a decent amount of stretching. I think this product definitely mitigates any IT band irritation from running. I don't think I would have been able to run this week at all without it. I will continue to use it and be conservative with my running until I am 100%, but I think it is a great tool to help stabilize the IT band and minimize pain and irritation. In fact, I am considering using it every time I run to avoid IT band injuries altogether.

SHORT,
This neoprene band is 20”. My adult male dad build thigh is 19”. It is way much too short to be useful. The band, because it’s nowhere near as long as depicted in the sales picture, it quickly gets much to tight an circulation is cit off. It will make for a comfortable tourniquet.I intend to return this item as it useless.Recommend people purchase a similar item that the length is specified. Beware of deceptive advertising, especially on Amazon.

poor fit
This product does not stay in place as it is supposed too. Once you start sweating it starts slipping down. I have to stop mutiple times during my runs to fix it back in place. I tried using it higher up the thigh and just above the knee, it does not stay in place for more than about 2 miles. I have tried to pull it really tight but loosen up after a short time. I would have sent it back already if I didn't already discard the package. I have a couple Jumper's knee straps from Mueller which I used extensively and they worked great but this is a failed product, all thumbs down.

Good, if only for a temporary fix.
I have had ITBS on and off with running for the past year; I blame my ITBS on beveled roads and my biomechanics. I ordered this product when it was getting to the point that even slowing down and reducing my stride wasn't enough. The Fit: It will take some adjusting to figure out your "sweet spot". Contrary to the picture of this product, this strap works best for me when it's up almost near the mid-thigh region, as opposed to right above the knee. The Strap Itself: This strap works best if you're wearing running pants as opposed to shorts as the "no slip" grip of the band will work best on fabric. Otherwise, on bare skin, you're setting yourself up to having to stop mid run to adjust the thing. Also, on bare skin, when the strap is stretched the band becomes slightly skinnier which would be fine if the velcro also did. Unfortunately, it does not, so the velcro may rub uncomfortably against bare skin. The function: Works well, but buy this in conjunction with a Foam Roller and ROLL THE CRAP OUT OF THAT IT BAND. This strap is not a permanent fix, just a bit of support while your band heals. With a foam roller, you will destroy/prevent any scar tissue, which is important to heal it.Overall: This is a good product and helped me out. I recommend it if you're having trouble with your IT Band.

Comfortable, firm strap. Great purchase!
I bought this strap to temporarily alleviate self diagnosed ITB pain casued by excessing hill running. I wanted a tool that provides all-day pain relief and compliments other recovery measures (trigger point self massage, foam roller, etc.). The strap has worked great. It is very comfortable. Worn above the knee, it alleviates ITB pain; below the knee it takes some pressure off strained calf muscles. I find it helpful to place the hard portion of the strap (near the plastic loop) against the outside of the leg when worn above the knee, and against the calf muscles when worn below the knee. I have not worn it during a workout yet, so I cannot comment on whether it slips as other reviewers have mentioned. I definitely recommend this product.
