knit flat and seamed. :(
in full disclosure, I haven't knitted any of these yet. However, after receiving the book, I read through the patterns and realized they are written to be knitted flat, folded and seamed together. That's a lot of fiddly seaming work, especially with some of the intricate curving and shaping in these cute little guys. So when I knit them, I'll have to convert them to knit in the round, because I hate seaming - and toys like this can easily be knit in the round. If I had known the patterns were knit flat I probably would not have purchased this book. So I thought I would add this information in case anyone else has the same preferences and would like to know ahead of time.

An Odd Knitter's Perfect Companion
Are you someone who gets tired of knitting the same old things (i.e. socks, sweaters, and boring traditional toys)? If so, this book is the answer to your prayers. I bought this book on a whim because I really loved the cover. Lo and behold what a joy! The patterns are weird and wonderful and colorful! Owls, conjoined twins, stripey cats, magic mushrooms, and pink poodles--not your average knitting menagerie. The patterns go from easy to more challenging and provide concise instructions. There is an excellent 'how-to' section that provides easy to follow pictures for harder stitches. I've completed quite a few of the projects & can't wait to make more. I love this book & really hope to see more odd creations from this author!I did find a couple typos that you should be aware of, but are no big deal.*For Olive Owl, Wing Piece One is supposed to read: Row 3: K1, M1R, K5, M1L, K1 (9 sts)*For Ginge Marmalade: the Rows are misnumbered starting after Row 31

Raccoons and cats and owls, oh my!
I immediately fell in love with this book when I saw the raccoon on the cover. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and I have already made two raccoons from the patterns. I loved that each character came with its own story. One complaint is that several of the patterns seem to be variations on the raccoon, just made a little larger and/or with different colors. I was hoping for different creatures, but having worked on individual designs for books myself, I can only imagine having to come up with 35 truly individual designs for one book. I still would recommend this book and it is one I keep going back to.

I love this book
The four of five stars are due to a typo in the ginge-marmalade cat pattern. Not a major typo, just a jump backwards in row numbers.I can spend hours paging through these unique characters. Bright, deformed, easily created, a great find for my novice abilities. Many basic techniques are touched on in this book. I don't like having to sew together two pieces to make a toy, but that's just me. After making just one project, I have enough confidence in my ability to create my own characters to add to the citizens of the cardboard forest. I look forward to the yarn splurge that will enable me to make more projects from this book (typos aside.)The instructions are easy to read. The basic techniques are in the back, so you can get to the projects right away, which I love. The projects are for the most part small. One is outrageously long, for those compulsive scarf knitters, I suppose. There's a beaded project to get your feet wet in that. At least one is knit in the round with a cable pattern and I think seed stitch. There's some colorwork in a couple projects, like the owl.I liked the book, just watch for typos, I guess. Hopefully there's none in the patterns themselves. I haven't looked too thoroughly in the other patterns to notice yet.

I love making things from this book. The toadstool and mushroom are my favorites but I also loved making the owl. There are basic and more advanced patterns and a lot of ways to expand your knitting skills!

Quirky and cute
This book is ideal if you like your toys to be a bit different and quirky and if you want a change from Amigurumi. The characters are well done and have little descriptions about their personality which is amusing. They are ideal to make using odd balls of yarn. The patterns are simple and there are instructions at the back on how to cast on, etc, which makes it ideal for beginners as well as more advanced knitters. I think they would be ideal to make for children as they are imaginative and the features are embroidered on and there are no hard parts.Donna Wilson also sells these characters in various arty craft shops around the UK too but its nice to be able to make them yourself. So far my friend has made Mitten Kitten and I have made Sleepy Pom and we found them easy and fun to make.

I absolutely love it!
The Knitted Odd-bod Bunch: 35 Unique and Quirky Knitted Creatures One word fantastic! This is a lovely book full of knitting patterns for unusual quirky loveable toys. There are a good selection of patterns some suitable for beginners some more advanced that include working in the round, intarsia & even one with beading, so something for everyone to knit & enjoy. I'm certainly going to have as much fun knitting them as I'm sure my nephews will have when they receive them as gifts. There are so many more interesting characters in this book than the cover photo shows. Buy it you'll love it! The Knitted Odd-bod Bunch: 35 Unique and Quirky Knitted Creatures

Great if you like odd!
I do! there are some different and unusual creatures. Good for grown up friend with quirky tastes and little boys .I made a raccoon type creature with a very bushy tail, a purple chap for a 40th birthday and a very long creature for my new nephew to cuddle. The good thing is that because they are the "oddbunch" you can experiment with any oddments of wool you have. It may even inspire you to have a go at making your own creatures up!

Wonderful!
I bought this book as I LOVE Donna Wilson's designs and was thrilled that I could create them myself. I have now knitted 2 odd bods which have turned out beautifully. The instructions are clear, the projects challenging but achievable and the finished outcome is just wonderful. Highly recommend this book to an intermediate knitter who wants to kick their knitting up to the next level.

full of character
I bought this book after buying Tig from the Donna Wilson website and wanted to recreate him for myself so bought the book. The knitted version is much bigger than the original but is every bit as characterful and is a perfect likeness so is a very good pattern and easy to recreate. My only faults with the book is that there are too many patterns knitted in the round as I have not used 4 pins for many years but hope to overcome this by knitting them on circular needles (an added expense if you do not already own them). There were also a couple of small mistakes on the instructions but easy to overcome if you are a regular knitter. All in all a good book which I would recommend to anyone who wanted to create Donna's designs for themselves.
