A Great Take On The Werewolf Genre
Very small cast, beautiful senery, great looking creatures and Samatha Shields, what more could one ask for. The short of it is that Shields has a baby, but gives it up, then later joins friends who are going to trek across the country to a B&B meeting location. They start getting killed off one by one, Shields finds a baby in a cave, carries it with her and even feeds it. Killing continues, but I won't give away the ending, which is very original, at least to me. Wild Country is a great little-known film and if you like the genre and are somewhat a fan of films from Great Britian, then this is your cup of tea, so to speak. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is most of the action takes place at night and it is sometimes hard to see, but don't let that stop you from watching this gem.

Good Movie Without A Big, Bad Wolf
If I have said it once , I have said it a thousand times. If a movie is going to be a movie, then it should be at least an hour and twenty-five minutes long. This was a really good movie, but I could not see most of the action done in the dark. There are ways to alleviate this problem. I have seen it in other movies, like green screening the night. The monsters could have been a bit better , instead of looking like an actor covered in a shaggy rug. Other special effects were good, like when the wolves took bits out of their victims. The story was a good one though. I do not regret buying this one, although the accents were too sharp many times. Good for what I paid for it.

Solid Low Budget
Not bad for a low budget film from Scotland. Some people thought creatures were cheesy but for the budget they were ok. Some people said they could not understand some of the dialog. That may be somewhat true but the plot was simple enough that that really doesn't matter.

Totally a C grade horror film but total just fun. I didn't like the creature design but that ...
Bought this only because of Peter Capaldi and it delivered! Totally a C grade horror film but total just fun. I didn't like the creature design but that didn't distract from the film. Scottish accents are somewhat difficult to understand. Acting was typical of low budget films. Overall ok. But I have 5 stars because my motive was to see Peter Capaldi and it delivered!

WILD COUNTRY
The story line was good. When the action started it was difficult to understand what was being said due to the Irish accents. The creature was very disappointing...laughable. They could have done better.

Single handedly sunk by corny monster costume
I like the sense of place in this film, but once the monsters actually show up, you can't help but see it's someone in a costume. Very silly, fake looking. This is a renter, not a keeper for your DVD shelf.

Killer wombles
A truly awful film. I'm not sure whether I disliked the night scenes or the day scenes most. The night time scenes you could barely make out what was happening, mainly relying on the cast reacting to an undiscernable shadow or shouting 'it's over there' whereas the daytime scenes showed the supposed werewolf to be some type of angry looking womble and looked just ridiculous. It drags its feet for most of its running time focusing on 5 young scallies from inner city Scotland out in the wilderness camping. Only it didn't look like the wilderness either with its well managed hedgerows and tended fields. I wouldn't criticise the young cast who acted credibly given the dialogue and set pieces they were provided with although their characters were inately uninteresting. This film is so dumb though. Fighting off a crappy looking werewolf with pointy sticks or a pen knife. A couple of passable effects of bodies but I'm amazed that this film was persevered with. Surely the director/producer must have been doing their jobs and studying the filming process and how rubbish a lot of it actually looked. Really, really poor and I think even less of it because at the beginning the priest who abandons all the youngsters to fend for themselves in the countryside tells the story of Sawney Bean (a real life Scottish cannibal)an infinitely better tale, whilst driving them to their destination in a crude attempt to inject some creepyness early on but which otherwise had no relation to this film whatsoever.

Probably the worst Scottish horror movie ever!!!
Not sure if this is the only Scottish horror movie but although the idea is not original the film did start with some promise - very quickly destroyed once you got accustomed to the terrible acting, low budget "monsters" (more like pigs with attitude) and pitiful ending. If fact the end is actually a complete summary of the film - absolute complete rubbish! Shame, as a regular visitor to Scotland and its mountains, I wanted this to be really scary and good - a little like the fantastic Dog Soldiers - Werewolves with attitude!

The small budget really shows in the practical effects monster ...
The small budget really shows in the practical effects monster sequences so it's helpful to find those charming. Otherwise, this Scottish movie delivers credible characters, well-acted by the small cast that includes Peter Capaldi and Martin Compston, and some typically dark and dry Scottish humour.

How To Love A Monster
!WARNING!MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!This low budget highland horror has a sixteen year old girl as its main protagonist. Her name is Kelly, and the film starts with her giving birth, and immediately giving up her baby boy for adoption. Six weeks pass, and Kelly is picked up by her local priest, who is taking a small group of teenagers on an outward bound course. The five teenagers(four initially, but fifth member Lee, also the father of Kelly's child, arrives after the priest leaves the others) have to find there way from a drop off point somewhere in the wilds, to a meeting point at a Bed and Breakfast by Midday the next day. After encountering a perverted peeping tom shepherd, the five camp down for the night. Then Kelly hears the distant cries of a baby, and goes to investigate. Thats where their trouble really begins, as Kelly and Lee, find the corpse of the shepherd and an abandoned baby in a ruined castle(?). They take the baby, fearing for its safety, but everything is not as it first appears, and the baby's very angry, very hairy and very dangerous mother sets off in pursuit.Okay, lets get one thing straight. The werewolf effects are very cheesy. In fact, they look more like giant carnivorous hedgehogs. Not that this matters one jot, as an enjoyable low budget horror with an engaging cast can be forgiven a multitude of sins. The young cast all perform very well, but special praise must go to Samantha Sheils who does a great job playing Kelly. Its also atmospheric, short and sweet, and could probably be best described as a kitchen sink monster mash. As for the twist ending, well jaded horror film fanatics might see it coming a mile off, but it was still an enjoyable way to end the film.A very good effort, made with the best intentions. Nice in depth extras on the disc as well. 4 out of 5

"Werebeast", rampage in scotland.
Wild country is a great movie, though a little cheap,a lot of things in this movie could have been much better, but what can you expect when to make a movie at all in the UK, is very hard, especialy in scotland. the plot is pretty basic, five troubled teens,go on hike, dropped off by a preist(who connvinced one of the girls too give up her baby),which she now bitterly regrets. it moves slowly forward from there, till one by one they fall, to the werebeast(it's not a werewolf,it looks more like a jackal),it looks realy great, there's fair bit of gore at times, when it?, kills, and the ending is very much poeticjustice, for everyone. you will either like it or think it is crap.
