Impressed
I'm doing things the wrong way round as I went from hydraulic brakes to cable, the reason was the hydraulic brakes where starting to act up and replacing them was going to be expensive, so I went cable with a cheaper brand, those where a bit time consuming to set up but worked quite well for a few months that is, then the front one failed, lucky for me not at speed, the reason was the caliper arm slipped round on the shaft, moral of this story is don't skimp on brakes. So still wanting to stay with cable I decided to go with the Avid as I already have a set on another bike and have had no problem with them. This set of Avid BB5's come without the mounts but I had them from the old set, the Avid's just bolted straight on and only needed a small amount of adjustment, they did not even need shims like the old ones, cables did not need anything done as they where long enough and just bolted straight down, so all on and adjusted up I took it out for a test ride and was really impressed, ok they are not quite as powerful as hydraulic but then they will not be as you loose pulling power through the cable, especially on the rear where the cable is longer, but they still stop really well and you have some nice modulation when pulling the lever back.Easy to adjust, I had a bit of pad rub on the none moving pad, which is another downside of cable only one side moves, so the none moving pad needs to as close as possible without rubbing, the plastic knurled knob turns easy and makes setting that up quite effortless. There is no doubt that hydraulic are better but these are a good option if you just want to keep things simple and still be able to stop, I don't really have any negatives with these, at the moment anyhow, but if I do I will be back here to up date.

Amazing performance for money
Compared to the factory fitted disc brake these are amazing, so much more bite to them and the tool free adjustment makes keeping it tight a cinch (ha).Actually depressing how close this is to the performance of my hydro SRAM red brakes on my road bike -- these really are very good.

A trustworthy and reliable brake caliper from a reputable brand
Following a dramatic caliper failure on a long downhill run in torrential rain, resulting in me bailing from an out of control bike which landing me in a hedge, I wanted a brake caliper I can rely on. Following much research and recommendations from other leisure cyclists, I opted for this Avid 55 caliper and have no regrets. It fitted easily, was straightforward to align and works exactly as it should. The fixing bracket isn't supplied but organic brake pads are although I replaced these with BB5 sintered for the best downhill braking performance in wet weather - having learned a valuable lesson when extricating myself from the hedge. After using these, I then replaced the calipers on other bikes too and from now on will avoid the unbranded cheapies fitted to budget bikes.Highly recommended and replacement pads are easily sourced

Perfect Replacement
Used to replace factory mechanical disc brake on my Montague Paratrooper and Montague "Hummer" branded Paratrooper. Fit PERFECTLY, and replaced the factory disc rotor. I ordered replacement pads which I also used, however the brakes do come with pads/tensioner installed. Like all mechanical brakes, they do take some effort to adjust properly, and they came with instructions to do that. There are also excellent videos on YouTube that demonstrate the VERY simple process. This vendor is professional and a pleasure to do business with. THANK YOU!

Good Budget Caliper
This is a good budget bicycle disc brake caliper. It can be attached directly to the stay/fork or an adapter bracket. This caliper is activated by cable instead of hydraulic. Common tools are needed for installing and setting up. Care should be taken to avoid contaminating the rotor and the disc brake pads.

Perfetto come un.. AVID
