A great read!
I loved this book. It was more than a great love story as it explored the depths of Jack Audley-Cavadish’s character. Who turned to be a lot more than a swashbuckling highwayman.

Another amazing story from Julia Quinn!!
I must confess that I love ANYTHING written by Julia Quinn. Her stories are always well thought out, and incredibly satisfying. I especially enjoy this approach of writing the same story from the two different perspectives. Each of the heroes and heroines are genuine individuals, true to their time, but ultimately easy to relate to in in today's terms. Well worth the read!!

Thrilling
I loved this story. Julia Wuinn never disappoints. She writes compelling loveable characters. Thank you Ms Quinn for sharing your talents with humanity. I truly enjoy this authors style. Wrongs get righted. Underdogs are vindicated. Romance galore!

Mostly sad romance, pretending to be lighthearted
An interesting concept, looking at the same life altering events, from four distinct viewpoints. Three of the four main characters drift along in their lives passively accepting the decisions for their lives, made by their families. Only the Hero of this book still suffering from his Napolean War army service and what he feels to be personal failings, rebel from family expectations. I don't know when this book was originally published, but, it certainly does not examplify the current lighthearted Quinn novel. Being a regency romance, of course there is a HEA, but the majority of the book is filled with insecurity, angst and sadness.

Will the real Duke of Wyndham please stand up?
Will the real Duke of Wyndham please stand up? Such a great tagline so I had to use it again on this post. I was so excited to get to this duology by Julia Quinn, having storylines that run concurrently but with scenes from different POVs is genius! I read The Lost Duke of Wyndham first and am really looking forward to reading Mr. Cavendish, I Presume next.Jack Audley is a highwayman and when the story starts he has just stopped a carriage with two women inside, the dowager Duchess of Wyndham and her companion Grace. Jack steals a kiss from Grace and then gets thrown for a loop when the dowager Duchess claims him to be her grandson, she swears he has to be the child of her much beloved son who passed 30 years ago....which quite possibly makes him the rightful Duke of Wyndham. But which also means the current Duke, Thomas, might be kicked out of a title and place he has held his entire life...Jack drew me in right from the start...he is hilarious, charming, witty and flirty and just the perfect balance to Grace. Grace has been the trusty companion to the dowager for 5 years and never is thanked for all her hard work or really has time for herself. I did really like their romance, but wanted a bit more of it just because Jack was so great. But of course, there is the whole drama unfolding of “who’s the rightful Duke?!” which keeps this read very fast-moving and easy to get lost in. I really enjoyed this entire concept and having the story told from 2 different POVs in their own books is really intriguing. JQ has excellent banter and dialogue in her books that make it just a breeze to consume and I am diving into the next story now!

Finally, a funny romance novel
I loved every minute of reading The lost Duke of Wyndham because the characters had a sense of humr-something totally lacking in romance novels. Loved it!!!

Great story
Great book and great story. Sometime the story is bigger than the love story. They don't talk about the big and important thing befoe and while they fall in love so the connection between them is told but not always felt. But the story by itself is very good with modern problems that are dressed with old times suroundings.

I loved it.
The twist in the storyline worked very well for me.. Vividly drawn characters and unexpected ones. Whatever happened to the lead character or is that another novel? I am always finding this. A master storyteller.

Not Up To Standard
Grace Eversleigh, companion to the dowager Duchess of Wyndham, was content with her life - not precisely satisfied, but she knew things could have been worse - right until the moment she and the duchess are held up by highwaymen. Then things get complicated.A kidnap, plenty of insults and numerous arguments disrupt everything, but that's not half as distracting as Jack Audley - who may, or may not, be the lost duke. The charming rogue has no desire to go along with the duchess' plans, but he stays for the pleasure of Grace's company. Because, really, if a man's world is about to be overturned, he surely deserves some comfort.Yet as the duchess' plans progress, Jack realises it's more than comfort he wants from Grace. But if Jack truly is the duke, can she ever be anything more? With this duology (this and Mr Cavendish, I Presume ) Julia Quinn attempts a new idea, which sadly doesn't quite pay-off. Oh, this book retains her wonderful dialogue and sparkling wit, but it doesn't meet her usual standards. There's too much happening off-scene (unsurprising, as it makes up the other book), which detracts from the action here.As a character Grace doesn't suffer too much, but then her role and history is clearly defined - companion to the duchess, friend to Thomas, love interest for Jack - and she emerges as a typical JQ heroine. Not so for Jack. I'm not sure why, exactly but I never warmed to him. Perhaps, as Amelia puts it, he's `a little too charming'. He certainly has an interesting history, but for me all the vital facts emerge too near the end, when they reach Ireland. By which point I'm just not that interested anymore. The question of who the Duke is dominates - naturally - and it often overwhelms the development of Jack's character, adding to the feel of a tale half told. This tale isn't bad, and when paired with `Mr Cavendish, I Presume' it reads much better. It just isn't up to JQ's usual standard. Mr Cavendish, I Presume

good but not brilliant
I have to say first off, that I am a big fan of Julia Quinn, and have read most of her books. This one was a nice read, and in parts quite witty, but it is missing something and I cannt even put my finger on what it is. I enjoyed it, dont get me wrong! but it didnt enthrall me in the way that others have. I still think it is well worth a read, and I will probably go ahead and get the 2nd book as well, but I am just that tiny bit reserved in my praise because this story isnt brilliantly good, which Julia's usually are. Having said that, Julia on a not-so-good day still outshines many other regency writers!! and I found the leading man to be charming and fun. I dont regret reading this, but I probably will not do so again, and thats rare for Julia Quinn, I can always re read her and enjoy the story again.

Nice read.
Like other reviews have said, I don't think this is the best JQ book. But it was still a great read. I liked Grace and I loved Jack and was glad he was so witty and charming because I think the book needed it as it seemed much more serious than other JQ books. I will be interested to read the second book, in this series, as going off this one, I do not like Thomas much at all.P.S. I read this book after finishing "How To Marry A Marquis" and I can't help comparing the horrible Dowager to the wonderful Lady Danbury and wondering what would happen if these two formidable ladies met. LOL!

loved
I’ve been looking for another book series since Bridgerton and I never knew how much I loved romances from this time period. Love the author, the style and the happy endings.
