Beautiful soft leather. Great natural smell- not overbearing and not chemical. Scratches easy but buffs off well. Out of the box it looks stiff but it’s just stuffed with so MUCH tissue paper. It’s really flexible and floppy with a sturdy bottom. I can tell I’m going to love this one! I included my 15” MacBook for size reference. There’s no internal laptop sleeve but this is big enough to carry a weekend of clothes, a pair of shoes, dopp bag, laptop in a sleeve and all the other necessities. This bag is great, but I would have rather had a different color. The Amethyst is more of a dull grey than purple. However, at $300 less than the other colors, it will have to do. Frye quality is apparent, and you can't beat it.

I love Frye leather products - I've several of their boots, which have lasted me for years and are comfortable as heck. They wear well and are all well-made products which look great. This Melissa bag is the first bag of theirs I've tried, and yes, it's pricey. To be honest, though, it's around the price of a lot of leather bags of this size by a 'known' brand, and Frye is a very good name for leather products. This bag is made in the Philippines out of a nice, thick leather so it can stand up to travel abuse, has a flat bottom so it'll stand on its own when set on the floor, and nice long handles so you can carry it comfortably while on your shoulder (also, they're not too narrow).It has a zippered inner pocket and then a slip pocket below that to hold items, and two other slip pockets (for phone or sunglasses) on the other side, and is big enough for laptops, clothes and a lot of items. It zippers closed as well to keep them safe while traveling or in storage, and has a nice 'slip' sleeve so you can slide it over the handle of your suitcase. All in all, this is a really nice bag that will hold a lot of items and be easy to carry around, and will hold up well over the years (Frye does a great job tanning/dyeing their leathers, but a treatment spray and some cleaning to maintain doesn't hurt).

Absolutely lovely bag. Have been using it as shoulder bag. Nice to know that it can also be versatile enough to act as a travel bag too.Very nicely made bag. Lined too.This bag will not only hold up for lots of years of use but I feel it is going to look better and better as it ages.Pricey but I think it is an investment.

My item shipped and was received on time and was fine but just not what I wanted (a little too big). They received my item back at Amazon days ago, but I still haven’t gotten my money refunded. It’s been almost a week.

I asked for and received this bag from my husband for Christmas, less than 2 months ago. I wanted something stylish and durable to carry client files to and from work. I have always loved every Frye product I have. But it's been Less than two months and the handle is coming apart on this bag. I am so upset. I assume since he bought it on Amazon rather than from Frye there is nothing I can do. If anyone knows differently please advise. SO UPSET!

This a pretty large travel bag with a sleeve to slide over your luggage handle. Frye company uses rich, natural leather and no two finishes are exactly the same. They use many natural tanning processes. The leather has a nice but subtle smell.It has a hard-shell bottom. There isn’t any feet so the bottom can get dirty. The inside isn’t my favorite. It’s really spacious though. There are 2 open pockets on one side and a zipper with a larger pocket on the other side. The zippers seem very sturdy. The outside is a rich, equestrian-like brown color with black lining. It’s very sleek and not bulky like some bags. There is 1 exterior pocket with a button closure on top and zipper closure in bottom- this pocket converts to the luggage sleeve. There are 4 buttons at the base of the handles and a faint logo on the bottom right corner.The handles come up about a foot and can stand up right on their own. They are not stiff they just have a strong quality of leather.The bag feels soft and comfortable on the shoulder. It is very light weight for its size and durability. This would be very nice for fall or winter.I think this bag is very chic and practical. While this is an expensive bag I feel it is an item that will last a long time and I will be able to get a lot of use out of it.The only thing I would have liked is if the bag had more pockets!

This bag does look exactly as pictured, just a little less shiny. It's very roomy and will easily fit my laptop, small projector, and files that I need for teaching a class on the road. There are three small interior pockets, the perfect size for my pens and flash drives. It will also function fine as intended, for a weekend travel bag.That said, though, I would never have paid $528 (current list price/ price on bag's tag). When I showed my husband the bag, he actually thought it was pleather, as the leather is very stiff rather than soft (though I assume it will soften with use). It's not got any special features or more room than my last leather bag, and I've never spent anything close to this price tag.
