Arriving Home: A Gracious Southern Welcome (James Farmer)

Gorgeous book purchased as a gift for my decorating loving mother. She really loves it too. You can’t go wrong with James Farmer. His aesthetic and eye for design is always on point. I wanted to keep this one for myself but I didn’t.

Beautiful coffee table book fill of lovely pics. Some books as of late have cheaper paper but this one is very nice ! If you love southern style decor you will love this book that is packed full.

In a world where magazines seem to be a lost art, and scrolling, squinting & “x-ing” out ads to see beautiful decor, this coffee book was a delight! It’s rare for me to get “me” time, but this book was so enjoyable I sank into my couch devouring the pages for several hours. I only wish I had the style of JT Farmer, but I had a flicker of hope that I might absorb the ability to mix my plaids and patterns after studying his gorgeous designs. This book is beautifully put together and does not disappoint! So happy he shared his gift of design!

I could live in every room of every single page of this wonderful book. As I turned page after page, I realized that the front pages are not reserved for the best. They continue to the very last page. This has become my only resource for the construction and design of our 100-year old home. I am so happy I found it before we finished! Many of the fabrics I love and have already chosen are displayed here in all their glory thanks to James Farmer and his wonderful style. The thing I love the most out of all the things there are to love is that none of the interiors feel stuffy or overdone and are so easily achieved with his design as my guide. Comfort, beauty, elegance and classic are just a few words that describe each home. If you were a fan of his first book as I was, this one will blow you away!

I just remodeled a traditional seaside Cape Cod style home. I wanted to retain the charm of this Royal Berry Wills home by playing up to its quaint old school style rather than to decorate with the blues and greens and contemporary furniture often associated with oceanfront homes. I also wanted to avoid a high style formal look, preferring a comfortable more casual approach. While there are many design books dedicated to a farm house style, this was not quite what I wanted either. This book and others by James Farmer and architect Gil Schafer are the perfect inspiration for what I hope to achieve in this house- a sophisticated, but comfortable decor that makes an asset of the coziness, scale and architectural elements of this home. Great and unique book!

This book was recommended. Each room is beautifully done, but for an eclectic home like mine, it’s over the top with patterns and clutter and books as decorations. I am trying to unclutter rooms at this point in my life and prefer single places of good taste/choices to focus on in a room

Mr. Farmer does wonderful work!

Wow, this may be my favorite decorating book. I loved Farmer's first book but I think this one is even better. Southern design is one of those things I want to love, but many times falls flat for me. Not so with this book. I love all the layers and detail. So many things to analyze in each photo. Lots of detail, but without feeling cluttered or busy. Lots to inspire in decorating my own home. The quality of the photos are excellent too.
