Great on BMW E39
These are very well built. The cylinder is noticeable larger than the stock units, presumably making them stronger, but this does not interfere with the clearance available. They fit just right.Installation is a breeze... well, you will need to remove the cabin air filter box on each side to install, but that is also fairly easy.Tools needed: a small flat screwdriver does a nice job at popping out the retainer clips in the old units. The new units just pop in with a small amount of pressure. You must have some sort of pole to hold your hood up securely while you're replacing these. NOTE: do not remove it until you have replaced BOTH units. A broom or mop stick usually does the job. Ensure that it is strong...the hood in an E39 is quite heavy. When inserting the replacement, start with the bottom first. It should snap into place easily. The top connector may seem to be too far up to fit. In that case do not try to compress the shock; push the hood up a bit instead. Normally that should give the required clearance for the upper socket to snap into the ball.Replace the cabin air filter box insuring the ventilation pipe snaps correctly into the filter box and you are done.Repeat the process on the other side. Do not get tempted to replace only one. The new one will wear out faster since the older but still working shock is weaker. Always replace them in a pair.

These work great!
I own a 1997 BMW 528i. I was recently closing the hood, and I heard gas expelling from the left hood lift support. The right one couldn't support the weight of the hood on its own, so the hood came down abruptly. I immediately opened the hood to see if my worst fears were true. Yes, the left hood lift support had broken for good and the hood could no longer stay up on its own. I could've just replaced the broken lift support, but I decided to get a pair of these at a really good price and replaced both. I'm glad I did. It used to be the last part of lifting the hood was the toughest part where I struggled. I'm struggling no more. This is the way I guess it was supposed to be (I've only had this vehicle for 8 years). Lifting the hood is now easy and the hood stays up with no problem. Installing (on my vehicle) was very easy. I used a large flat head screwdriver to pry off the old lift supports, and I used my bare hands to install the new lift supports. No regrets buying this brand!

Great Hood Supports
I just installed these hood supports on my 2003 BMW 530i and they fit perfectly and appear to be of good quality. Installation couldn't be easier as they just snap onto the ball joints located on the hood and fender. I didn't realize that my original hood supports had gotten so weak until I installed these. Great value assuming they hold up over time.

very well made, comparable to the BMW feel when lifting Hood
They went on fairly well. Holding in my hand they felt solid. BMW hood is fairly heavy. I have used same brand my friend ordered for his car years ago and I checked his car out before buying for my car and since I installed his and showed him how to do it. When mine went over this past winter, I checked his out to see how the lift power was and felt the same. Like the company. Compared to the cost of new BMW ones these could be 80% the quality, but looks sturdy and other set was 3+ years. Highly recommend from lifelong car home mechanic.

Good quality.
Easy to install. I had reservations because of other reviews about the product but now I have to wonder about the competency of the people writing those reviews. Lifts are gas filled so that means they are forcefully extended by the gas it doesn't mean that they are bigger than the original. They are a perfect fit.

Excellent Product / Perfect Replacements
I installed there yesterday on a 2003 BMW M5. They are exactly the same overall length, and the thicker end is slightly longer. They provide almost of support and really hold up the hood well. Very easy to install.

Works great, fits awesome (e39)
Works great! Mine were blown forever and this lifts the hood effortlessly and had the perfect amount of strength for this heavy hood. It's hard to find a aftermarket option for these due to the clearance of the ball ends. This fit 100% and it's easy to install.
